Getting To Airport From Bts On Nut - Faster?

I've a weekday flight which means I've to catch a cab at about 6pm. Wonder if I will beat the traffic jams in central BKK by catching a cab from around BTS On Nut instead. Assuming there are cabs there :)

Instead of ?

There are cabs at BTS Onnut, but also traffic jam along Sukhumvit to Bangna.

Better to catch a cab at BTS Prakhanong and use the highway link before crossing Prakhanong canal.

At Asok, turn in the direction to Rama IV, and take the expressway at the Port by passing via klhong Toei.

Bad jam at Klong Teoi intersection at 6pm of weekdays.

Yes very bad, from lower sukhumvit just take the expressway near Soi 1. Sure there is traffic at 6pm but so is everywhere else.

The red light can be long (2-3 min) to cross Rama IV, but after that, never took too long to reach the expressway:

You usually have standing traffic on the flyover bridge since 5pm going well beyond 7pm. I know as i used to have direct view to the bridge from my apartment still few months back.

For more than a year you were not able to cross Rama IV coming from Sukhumvit as the protesters were blocking the road. However yesterday i noticed they have finally left and the road is open again.

I used to live next to Rama IV lotus so had direct access to Bangna tollway and now traver from lower Sukhumvit via expressway near Soi 1 and can confirm it is faster than Bangna road mostly due to shorter distance i believe.

If you head Bangna way i would propose to exit to the new ring road extension (Kanchanadapisek?) and cross over to Rama 9 instead of going the long way around the airport perimeter with the road works going on. Or are the new exits from expressway already completed ?

The traffic on the flyover is not a problem, as you don't take the bridge.

When the protest was still going on, you had to take this road (and in that case did not have to wait at the red light):

Personally, I prefer Bangna, by this way:

I think the new exit are now completed, but have not traveled for a few weeks.

38KM this way.

or 31.5 KM this way:

Yep, but my point was that when the flyover is standing it means also Ratchada is standing sometimes all the way to Sukhumvit. Also Rama IV is very busy at that time. You can easily spend more than an hour coming from Sathorn to Rama IV lotus. Easily more than half an hour from Sukhumvit via Ratchada.

Actually i prefer to drive via the sois during rush hour, you have some selection there as you can go via soi 16, 18, 20, 22 or 24 as they are all linked.

Lately i have made it to Soi 1 expressway entrance 15 mins to max 30 mins in rush hour times (from asoke intersection in Sukhumvit). Also it is expressway all the way to airport departures from there hence i believe it is faster in weekday 6pm traffic. Without traffic it is around 30 mins to reach the airport and even with heavy traffic it has never been more than one hour.

Another tactic could be to hail a cab at On Nut and go up On Nut Road (Sukhumvit Soi 77), then connect onto Sri Nakarin Road and head up to the airport that way. No expressways and a very direct route. Traffic along On Nut Road shouldn't be too bad (though won't exactly be light) and will become lighter as you go further along the road out of town.

This is the fastest way of getting to the Airport. About 20-30 minutes and 150 baht last time.

Is this the way the taxi driver will automatically go, or are you faced with the problem of telling him how he should go?
