Hi All

Ok so youve done all your homework ,, groundwork ,, lowered your bank balance ,, got your lady back to the UK with you , married settled down ,, back into some sort of routine , ie your off to work each day , mabe she is working full time , part time , looking after the home , and you ! or any combination of the previous ,,,, so hows it going a year on ??

Hows she settled in ?

ie, has she integrated into your culture here well , food, your hobbies,, with your family and neighbours, looking after you ?

All I can say from my experience from our first year together I have never been happier in my life ,, after being married 27 years to a piece of dead western driftwood I now have a gorgeous , loving , caring, HAPPY , funny , sexy , Thai lady ,,,,,someone with character and soul , someone who 100% loves and stands by her husband ( good and bad times ) someone that has given it a good go and will happily eat UK food as Thai food , someone that has given me more love and made me fell more wanted in the space of the last year , than the last miserable creature did in 27 years. I love my Jan with all my heart forever , especially today as its the 5th anniversary of the death of my youngest son , Jan has been my rock today and got me through.

God bless you all and I hope you all find such happiness and contentment that we have together.

hmm, that's nice that you are happy with your new wife but presumably you had the similar feelings for your first wife at least in the beginning. Whatever happened over the years, & 27 years is a long time to stay with someone you hate so much so couldn't have been all bad, is usually in part the fault of both people in the relationship so your terminology is uncalled for imo.

I hope you continue to have the same positive relationship with your 2nd wife & manage to let go of whatever negative feelings you have over the first to make yourself even happier.

My husband has been in UK for over 5 years & is well settled. He could live for the rest of his life in the UK quite happily. He of course misses some things about Thailand, usually food related & general ease on getting things done without so much paperwork but finds the law & general lack of corruption in UK as a massive positive.

He likes British food, works with British people & has British friends. If your partner is willing to adapt & integrate then imo life can be great in UK but then I find someone who is happy in their own country can generally be happy anywhere.

While I am very glad that you found happiness, that your current wife is settling in well and sorry that you feel your first wife was worthy of insulting in such a public manner, I must post a reminder of forum rules to all concerned before this thread veers off course from how your partner or spouse is faring in your country:

7) Not to post slurs or degrading comments directed towards any group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

and for those who are not having a good experience a reminder of this as well:

8) Not to post extremely negative views of Thailand or derogatory comments directed towards all Thais.

So, to the topic at hand, how are others partners or spouses faring in your home country.

Honestly, when my Thai wife came to the UK 7 years ago (because of our marriage), she had only one goal in mind: Getting back to Thailand as quickly as possible. She never liked living in the UK.

I wish you luck with your new wife but you don’t sound very mature to me. Do you seriously believe you won’t experience any (bad) surprises with your Thai wife? You know her for just one year? Don’t know you guys of course, but the way you sound I would expect that culture shock will hit you hard any time soon… (E.g. cultural, personal, and age differences) Based on my own observation, I would argue that a large proportion of Thai women become fed up of living abroad at some stage in their life. Many of them wish to return to Thailand…

Just one advice here: If you eventually find out further down the line that your wife is dead Thai driftwood and a miserable creature, when please don’t blame it on Thai culture.

Wish you all the best anyway and sorry for your son…

Thats good news because i have to take my thai wifey next year to the UK to live and work for a year as she wants the experience as she says she is bored in Thailand...

She doesn't like to wake up before 9 am and surfaces about 10 ish each morning and trots off to work around 12 ish where her office staff have got lunch ready for her arrival for the 4 hour afternoon shift!

She has a really easy life here so i can't wait for her to start 8 hour shifts in England! Hopefully be back here after a few weeks ;-)

Not sure about your rants about your ex misses....but you've been slapped for them already so.... move on and forget...

From America, I know few mirages, the only successful one is when the husband moves to Thailand permanently or the Thai girl is in US few years so she knows and like the culture so they can be happy in US. Otherwise the wife is always pulled back to Thailand because of the family

My wife loved living in the west ,loved the cold ,not the food so much but everything else was lovely and we had a great time ,now after being back in Thailand for 4 years ,she misses the British weather and her garden but we are just as happy as we were 10 years ago.

Maybe in my next life, I'll be born a perfect Thai woman and not a piece of dead Western driftwood!! Can't wait...

:):D:D ^^

I'm glad the OP is happy in his new life, but I would venture a guess that his ex might have a few choice words to say about him. It takes two to Tango, as the saying goes.

Anyway, good luck to the OP.

I work in Germany, so we're both happy little expats together.

The first year was 9 years ago, but coped happily with the baby.

I won't talk about a previous life, but the best thing I ever did was marry her.

Less than 6 months now from early retirement in LOS, think I'll be happier to leave Doucheland than she will!

Have to agree here - the negative feelings only hurt you, not your former wife.

Happy to hear that your new wife is able to adjust to the very very different, new environment.

Why tar yourself with the same brush ? I was talking about MY ex ok

Actually, OP, you did come across as beating up on western women. At least that is what I got from your OP, I suggest you go back and read your post and you might see what most everyone else does.

Now, so we can all learn from your wonderful situation, please let us know some details:

1) How old are you and how old is your wife?

2) Where and under what circumstances did you meet the lovely Jan?

3) How long had you known her before you got married?

4) How soon did you bring her back to the UK?

5) Any other details you may care to share with us?

I ask these questions seriously, as you seem to be so happy and I think it might be helpful to some of us out there to know the secret of your success! Thanks in advance!

And the OP isn't a troll?

I am not sure he is, just a bigoted, opinionated, biased and with many borderline comments in the visa forum, I don't believe he is clever enough to be a half decent Troll.

But then again you might be right.

My wife has been in Scotland almost 3 years now and loves everything except the weather, the foood, did I mention the rain? She can get any Thai ingredients she wants here and so she makes and sells loads of Thai food to all her Thai friends (She's got more friends than me). She says she wants to stay here as our kids will get a better education than in Thailand, not sure about that, but all in all she likes it here and doesn't want to move back to Thailand any time soon, I've just turned 40 this year so we're planning another 10 years here then take stock of our lives.

Glad you are happy, and your tale makes a change from all of the sad stories that we read about and hear. I agree with others here that it's not fair to tar all western women with the same brush. We haven't heard the other side of the story on why your first marriage failed ...

Very happy for you and my heartfelt sympathies for the death of your son.

If you ever get bored of your wife, I am willing to do a trade in for my old woman. Only one previous owner, bodywork going a bit, but her engine’s still running and cooks a nice plate of fish and chips.
