Hi there

i'm interested in buying a 2nd hand EVOVII, can anyone forewarn me of any potential pitfalls.

I am aware that some are copies, but am not sure how to tell a genuine one from a copy. Also am aware that can be problems if it has not been using the right fuel, but i spoze that is the risk u gotta take, no way to determine if its used the correct grade....or is there?

My instinct is to stay well away from such cars, get something sensible, but they're just so dam_n nice.

any help appreciated

i have a good friend, i blieve he is selling his evo 6 tommi,

and i have a few friends who own a car dealership, they usually a bunch of supras, evos etc,

you are right to beware about local transformed evos, you dont want to pay a million etc for a fwd modified

to all four some are even still fwd to, but with the mivec 4g63 motor.

Hmm, my uneducated guess is the low grade fuel here will ruin a turbo motor. Lack of octane, will retard the ignition timing too much and cause poor running.

If you do find one, get an un-modified one ie.engine,turbo etc. Running on 98octane should be a minimum, but I know here in Phuket it's not available and doubtfully the rest of Thailand.

Signs to look out for, start up dash lights need to show th AYC light (Anti Yaw Control). Adjustable 4wd settings are standard for genuine 7's ie. snow, gravel, tarmac, look for a switchable button. If in doubt, find a large patch of grass, full left lock and give it full beans, if you go forward it's a FWD, if you spin round and round and round and round its 4WD :)

HTH and when you find one, get some pics up!!! If it were me, I'd be buying the Tommi Mak from the guy above. Evo6's are brilliant.

For the record I've driven a FQ360 EVO8 as a birthday gift track day experience thing. Un. For. Get. Able.

Almost all of EVO here is not a genuine car - they bring car cut in two parts and then build the new one with Cedia doks and body.

There is two shop that I know which is Evo specialist - Forever and Evo Step

EVO 7 in good conditions you can have for 900k

But again - this is not original car

went and checked out two VII's today, taking one of the ones from Evo Step for a drive. While there may be fully imported ones about, it seems the majority are assembled from 2nd hand parts. Hence the number of kilo's any particular car displays has no real relevence to how many K's the engine, or any of the other components have actually done.

While these cars are not really genuine evo's in the strictest sense, in theory they could be as good as one. Yet buying one could be at one's own peril, and it seems you would have to take it on trust that the car is assembled in good faith ie. that it has active yaw control (how would this be tested?), that the airbags actually work, that there are the correct chips in the motor etc.

I am unsure how the registration works, are they registered as a cedia? Could one be stung with some kinda import duty at some point?? This would be my greatest concern.

Evo step is a helluva long way outa BKK (300B by cab), but the guy seems pretty cool. He let me take a VII for a drive and it's F'n fast man. They are a very tidy car, very smooth, very tight. Getting a car from him would have certain advantages in that you would be dealing with the guy that actually assembles the cars. Have located a few private sellers on 'taladrot' and they don't seem much cheaper than what the dealers are selling them for (which is about 950 for a reasonably tidy one). Havn't seen them yet though, may do so this week.

VII's appear to be the best value, doesn't seem to be worth paying another 500 for a IV when its assembled with second hand parts as well. Although u would get the newer Vtec (or whatever it's called) motor.

After driving one of these beasts anything else just seems lame. Took a sporty lexus for a drive (similar price) and nearly fell asleep behind the wheel. Pity i didn't have 3.4 to buy the black GT-R there, now that was niiiiice. Not bad value given one of those mini's are 3M.

The GF simply cannot comprehend why anyone would pay 900 for a mitsubishi that is 6 years old.........but then she cannot comprehend how anyone could not like somtum plaa, must be a (thai) chic thing.

Just an aside, the other one we looked at yesterday (but the dude didn't let me drive it) was obviously cut in half. In yr previous post u said they cut a cedia in half and imported it. Given the availability of cedia shells here, i don't understand why the would cut one in half and import it. I would of thought they would of got two different wrecked cedia's and welded them together. At least the evo step 7 was a complete shell.

The trouble with a lot of Evo's is they have had more hits than the Beatles! Plus they a mechanically tired by 70,000 km.

I can second that! If the transmission doesn't go you'll definitely have to be worrying about the differentials, but it's nothing a quaife and a torsen combination can't fix :)

No really, but I was thinking about that car for myself. I like the conditions of that car.

They bring EVO's cut in jalf and then build them using body and doc's from local Cedia

I noticed on one2car they are selling new X's, apparently they are about 2.2M

About 4.2M to regret. For 2.2M I'd buy immediately

ps. grant, in hindsight, i think the evo step 7 was a copy. For the same price i think u could get a lot better one than that. There are a lot of evo's on the market now. There's a very tidy grey one on talladrot that i was gonna check out for 850, but didn't bother because i got the 8

I don't want to buy EVO anymore.

Will still use my modified Civic with 230HP n/a under the hood

What about the EVO X - there are a few on sale on One2car - are they also built here ?

If you want an original EVO 8-9,

head to vattana motorsports in phetburi road,

they are the dealer of OMP, supercar thailand race car builder,

Motec tuners as well.

They specalize in unqiue cars and the prices are tad expensive but you get what you pay for.

They have original evo also sti s203-s204.

both are amazing.

expect to pay 2million but you are sure to have a proper evo.
