Travel Budget To Thailand

Featured Replies

Alright, i want to travel to thailand at some point next year, and i hope, someone with some experience with living, traveling, having a blast in thailand could help me out!

i want to go to thailand, and stay there for a few months atleast, i want to be able to go to a bar, when i want, i want to rent a bike if i want , i want to afford all the basic backpacker luxuries, although i dont plan on going backpacker broke style!

so what would a nice budget be for someone impulsive and a first timer in thailand

oh btw, im the type of guy that can sleep even if i have to share a bed with 10 cockroaches :)

a small price list of street food, thai cigarettes, cheap beer etc, would be much appreciated, you know the basics :D

For places to stay, well you can rent a real cheap room for about 3000 baht per month ( about $90.00 USD), but you will need to buy bed sheets, towels dishes all of that or you can rent rooms at hotels, you can decent rooms for 500-700 baht per day ($15-$21 per day) this is with aircon, you can get lower priced places with just a fan for about $10 a day or less depending on where you are. I have found some hotels in the northeast for $10 that have aircon. Cigs Marlboro are 55 baht per pack ($1.67) thai brand I believe are 35 baht about $1USD. Thai beers large bottle is about 35 baht per bottle, Heineken is 60 baht per for large bottle, this is store price, restaurant depends lower end about 120 baht for Heineken, don't know about Thai beer. Food on the street rice, noodles etc is about 30 baht per serving (little less than $1) In BKK easy to get around, no need for a bike, you have taxis are everywhere, then you have motorbike taxis, buses, skytrain and subway. All fairly cheap. Outside of bkk for long trips you can take the train or bus, in towns there are always ways to get around mostly motorbike taxis. For a budget depends on how much you go out drinking, how you drink and if you end up with any girls. I would say $2000 USD per month minimum staying in hotels, could be less if you rent a room. Anything above this you will have a better time.

------

basic room w/o air, community bath about 250 baht

average thai meal 40 x 3 about 120 baht

motor bike rental per month about 5000 baht

petrol per day 50 baht

as far as drinking and entertaining yourself as you describe.... bring as much as you can afford, get a second or third mortgage on your home....

the sky is the limit.... lol

a few months back, a friend came in from sfo to visit, this was his tap for an evening (not include my own):

food and beverage, no alcohol 2100

taxi 680

body scrub 1500

thai traditional massage 2.5 hrs 2500

hot stones application 750

sky is the limit when you come for entertainment in thailand.... lol

but i can also personally assure you that for the similar types of entertainment and activity elsewhere in other countries, such as hongkong, shianghai, tokyo or seoul, it would cost you much much more ....

just come and enjoy the different life style for a season.... just like several of us who originally came just for a week or so.... lol

but after several years, we are still here.... lol

and we are still complaining just about the same things we were complaining about when we first got here.... lol

cheers

I was told about 1000 baht A day 30000 baht A month. But I was reading in bkk it cost about a million baht A year to live nice

thrilled

1,000 baht a day....

yes, judging from seeing and helping numerous tourists in southern parts of thailand, you can survive with around 1000 baht a day. some hotel rooms cost only 250 baht a night and if you desire to stay for a week, the owner will be willing to discount even more, depending on which months of the year....

there are many members of this thaivisa who also have been living on 1000 bath a day and many have been here in thailand for many years. if they choose their ways of life wisely, they could even have a wife and children as well....

but i never ask farangs i met whether or not they are here legally.... i am just happy to see them being themselves and being happy with or without family members walking or tacking alongside....

many times, i did softly asked the ladies in thai,

"pan ngai barnk? sa bai dee mai krub?

<how is it going?? are you happy?>

most of the responses were that they were happy that they could count on Jon..... et cetera, et cetera....

with 1000 baht a day, you won't be able to live like henry the VIII but you could have plenty of fun time.... lol

pm me, when you ever come down to southern part of thailand....

regarding spending about 1 mil baht a year, there are also load of thaivisa members who could easily meet that criterian.... and there are also many who could easily top that without having ever to blink their carefully manicured eyelashes.... lol

just come over and enjoy yourself.... having said that, you also need to read up on all the top secrets surrounding the suvana airport.... alright?

cheers

thank you all for your time, alright 1000 baht per day sounds pretty decent for the average day

that means 10.000 dollars will hold out some months atleast :)

renting an apartment seems much cheaper than a hotel, so ill go with that

and nakachalet, sure thing mate, ill bookmark this thread, and hopefully contact you some day next year when im in thailand! i assume you live here? lucky bastard :D

save up as much as you can spare for the trip ( be sure to keep your return ticket safe)

spend and learn as you go, and when the money gets low leave

apartment rental.... is not a good idea for you.

you want to see thailand and experience the exotic flavors of different sectors of thailand, right?

living in an apartment means you are confined to a location....

there are many inexpensive rooms in the neighborhood of 250 to 350 baht around thailand.... many at the 350 end also provide hot shower as well.... lol

another idea is to find someone when you get here to travel and share the expenses.... if you like

you are right, better to stay in cheap places all around, not just seeing the sun go down from one angle :)

:) just be sure AIRASIA is not your budget airline....

read the treads in here elsewhere in this thaivisa website...... :D ...... :D

alright, ill make sure not to do that

ill also kick the airasia employee i meet, in the groin :)

Air Asia is a great airline - highly recommend it for travel. Just travel light and make sure you are least hr or so prior to flight. :)
