bdenner
Have no idea where you are located but a friends TW is doing her driving license test today in Udon Thani. The school gave him an all in quote of 3200 Baht from 1st lesson to license no matter how long it takes. Well equipped dual control vehicles and he was impressed by their professionalism (no English though). I've been trying to get my TW to do her license for years, going to take her there and stop pissing around trying to teach her myself. YES, I know I should not have even attempted it. QED
3200 bhat, thats £800? also, do you know hourly rates, and if a thai driving license is accepted as a full uk license?cheers No its not, more like 60 pounds! I paid 5,000 for my girlfriend's lessons in Pattaya a few years back, 20 hours tuition but they said she could have more if she failed. She is a much better driver than most Thais now, I would definitely recommend it
dumball
You need to take driving LESSONS in Thailand ? Would that not be fruitless ? When you get on the roads you have to learn all over again for the sake of survival , or do they teach 'The Thai Way' ?
kscotland
they guarantee to pass you for £60? that can not be right, 40 hours - £5 per hour on petrol, thats £200 just in petrol or can u pass ur driving test in thailand after 2 and a half hours tuition? dumball
From what I have read on this very instructive forum , it does not constitute skill perse , it only takes the 'A'typical 'Passing-of-the-coin' wink-wink . Just standing watching the level of skill shown by the average driver should attest somewhat to this , of course , they could be refering to specialised skills on 'How-to-survive' the Bankok carpark .
JimShortz
Well, I'm certainly pleased to hear that driving lessons are available in Thailand... Now all we need is for 90% of existing drivers to sign up for them!
clinique
Only 90% , thats generous of you !! Since there are about 50 million thais already driving who just bought a car and "paid' for their licence - why would you bother. Getting a licence after all is not about passing the test its about how much you pay the guy out front for his 'servcie' - still about 500 baht i beleive. Oh and petrol here is about 30 baht alitre, which fora one hour lesson doesnt get to GBP 5 -
happylarry
My wife paid 3500 baht for a course here in Korat which included eight hours tuition and also the test. Dual control cars, and instructors who like chatting up the women. lol Anyway the usual no brainer test, held off road, and she was the only person out of 45 people (who did the test on the day) who managed to pass all sections of the test on the first attempt. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason I didnt teach her myself??????????? Because there is no provisional licences issued in Thailand so if we had an accident while on a lesson we would not have been insured, and I was not about to risk that. I suspect that the driving schools have special insurance to cover for this. However she has been on a permenent lesson since then, when I am out with her, and she is now a very good driver. Big Yellow Sign on the west dised of the road! Isn't "Driving School in Thailand ans oxymoron".... I forgot everything I ever knew about driving when I did nothing but fill out papers and take and eye test to get a thai DL.
