Thailand, Which Beach Area To Go To? Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am going to Thailand in several weeks time.

I want to go to a beautiful beach area, with white sands and clear water, 2-4 hours drive from Bangkok.

I am not interested in areas such as Pattaya/Hua Hin, nor any Islands. I would realy like something quiet, authentic, relaxed and cheap (1000bht p/n max). Preferably the type of place where Thai people go to relax, or little sleepy fishing village, etc...

I have researched Cha am a little but I am not so sure if this floats my boat either.

I was thinking something like Muang Rayong or south Chanthaburi. Has anyone got any experiences of visiting these places?

Could anyone give me some advice or on the above areas or others in accordance to my description.

Thanks in advance for comments.

In between Hua Hin and Chumporn there is a string of small beach resorts which might fit the bill.

Going from North to South: Ao Manao (directly south of Prachuabkhirikhan), Sam Roi Yot, Thap Sakae, Ban Krut, Bang Saphan Yai, Bang Saphan Noi.

many on the waay to rayong....quiet,serene, small villages next to clear blue waters.

quite a few very old farangs seem to live near them too with their (thai?) wives and children.

was there a month ago . sorry don't know the thai names of these places. a local from bang saen brought us farangs there. fantastic seafood at real local thai prices. noticed most farangs there speak thai like locals too.

Thank you for the advice guys, it is much appreciated.

As I will be driving from Bangkok, I think it might be easier to go to South Rayong area.

(Could anyone guestimate how long it would take to drive from Bangkok to Muang Rayong)

Also does anyone know of any good accomodation within Muang Rayong, or is it a matter of driving down there and physically searching for accomodation?

Thanks

Going regularly from Bkk to Hat Mae Ramphung, one of the beaches near Rayong. To be more precise between Rayong and Ban Phe. Very very calm beach, which is loved by the locals during week-ends. Count approx 3 hrs from Bkk to Hat Mae Ramphung - unless you plan to go on a saturday, then it will take you much longer. You can also take the bus at Ekamai to Rayong and from Rayong take a litte "taxibus" to Hat Mae Ramphung (light blue bus).

:)

Plenty of accomodation .... meeting your criteria ... visit some places out and make your decision afterwards

Just returned from Chumpon, very nice, sandy beaches largely to yourself, beautiful area, roads ok, good food, had no complaints at all.

Consider Phala Beach! Just east of Sattahip. Outstanding seafood restaurants, clean ocean, sparsely populated beaches, real Thai ambiance.

Bit further south but had a couple of days last week in Ko Chang and will definately be going back there.

Bit like Patti /Poo about 30 years ago...and even got a new paddy pub....cool....

Phala Beach is relatively clean, as it gets washed by the higher tides, and the deckchair areas under the trees are cleaned by the vendors. As previously stated, on Thai holiday weekends it gets quite busy, otherwise it's very peaceful there.

I find the beaches east of Ban Phe idyllic.

I can recommend Mae Ramphung Beach (in Rayong province) for peace & quiet - with plenty of shady trees, & traditional Thai fresh sea food eateries dotted along the length of beach - which is some 9-10 kilometers long !

Quiet during the week, though busier over the weekends mainly with Thais !!

Try "Nice Beach" Hotel - a neat hotel, only a few (3/4) years old with good rates (about B1000+- in high season) - located @ the eastern end of Mae Ramphung Beach - close to Khao Leam Ya National Park - and just a few (4/5+-) kilometers away from Ban Phe Fishing Village !!

From Ban Phe you can also go across to Koh Samet !!
