Immigration Confirmation Of Residential Address For Drivers Licence

Featured Replies

I went along to Phuket imigration and was charged 300 baht for a slip confirming my residential address. I understand that this is required for obtaining a drivers licence. I have since been advised by friends that there is no fee. I have contacted immigration in Bangkok who has confirmed that there is no fee.

Have I been incorrectly charged?

Yes, and no. This service was originally supposed to be free. When I did one about 3-4 months ago with a guy that was buying my motorbike, I asked "How much?" and the officer actually said, "Up to you." lol I didn't pay anything. Since then I read it was no longer going to be offered for free, but I don't recall if that was a Phuket thing or not. Different provences do vary wildly from one another in terms of laws, rules and fees when it comes to anything to do with the government. And remember that Phuket is sort of it's own little country in this way. Much is left up to the boss in charge as to how to handle things. Essentially, if they want to charge 300B, then they will.

Yes here is 300thb as well, in Ubon (Phibun Immigration) did my renewal last week

Normaly the immigration offices do normaly this sevice not anymoore.

New, the policestation where you live, has to conform your address. The have a special new Form for this and have do it for free.

That service is meant to be free but unless you can produce your house book with your name on the front, forget it - had the same issues at Phuket recently.

Problem solved. I contacted the immigration hotline in Bangkok and they confirmed verbally and by email that there is no fee for a residence certificate. I was advised to contact the person in charge and this person was ready and waiting when I arrived today. I was out within 5 minutes. I went in on the basis that I thought a mistake had been made. The officer concerned was called in and willingly handed back my 300 baht. Smiles all around. 'Don't hestitate to see me again if I can be of help'!was their response. It's difficult to buy anything in this country without getting ripped off. It's a pity that a schedule of fees isn't posted and the cashier function is not seperated. in any case, I am pleased to see that one Government department has actively sought to correct a wrong.

Wow seems like a long way to go for 300 baht. I bitch about the corruption alot, but I wouldn't have risked making some enemies out of some people whom you may need help from in the future for 300 baht.

Nan Immigration charged 300 Baht too. Must admit the form is different than the one that used to be issued by main Immigration at Suan Plu.

This one has your photo on it and official looking red stamp by it too, plus details of you and your address.

The old residence certificate did not cost anything, just some Baht for EMS (47 Baht, I recall)

This was in May this year and I must admit I thought they were trying it on, 300 Baht!, but maybe not the case after all.
