I'm reading some research into obesity problems among preschoolers in Thai schools. The abstract says that four areas were investigated, one of which was exercise. The abstract summarises the results for this part by saying:

การออกกำลังกาย โรงเรียนมีการแก้ปัญหาโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับการปฏิบัติมาก

I guess a literal reading might render it as:

Exercise: the school solved the problem with a high level of commitment

but that doesn't sound like 'a result' to me. I'm trying to render this into something that sounds natural English and a result. Would

Exercise: the school solved the problem by ensuring the students participated in exercise to a high degree.

(or something like that) be reasonable? My problem with this is that my interpretation seems to go way beyond what is written.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd say ระดับการปฏิบัติ is a bit of jargon that means something like "operation level"

การออกกำลังกาย โรงเรียนมีการแก้ปัญหาโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับการปฏิบัติมาก

Exercise: the school's efforts to solve the problem overall are at a high operation level.

Or

Overall the school's efforts to solve the exercise problem are at a high operation level.

Whatever that means. Probably that they're being very proactive, or something. Again, it just sounds like jargon.

Thanks. I guess I'm trying to 'overread' it (if that's a word!), as this is supposed to be academic research. You couldn't get away with something like that in English-language research in the abstract, it just doesn't make sense - "the results were that the school really tried to solve the problem"! That's not a result!!

I've not really forayed into the crazy world of Thai academic writing before, but would it be fair to say I'll have to throw out any preconceptions that it will conform to International standards of writing, or is it just this piece do you think?

I think that they are using 'level' in an English sense.

Exercises: the schools solution was to group in levels of of much training.

The problem being that the fat kids are not expert at exercises. I know that it is still weak, but there is the feeling of a solution.

It reads like pretty typical formal-style Thai to me, though I don't have the benefit of the larger context. I'd say keep your preconceptions, but on a short leash. :)

Can you confirm the meanings which you have ascribed, because I appear to be too literal.

การออกกำลังกาย exercising

การแก้ปัญหา solving

โดยรวมอยู่ overall

ในระดับ.....มาก at high level

การปฏิบัติ operation
