for bus: none, do it all by yourself at bussttaion-in fact except for the 2-3 weeks that Thai go on holiday, just turn up and see whats there will work-advance booking will lead to more problems

plane: what type of flite do you want/ the tipical low-cost, like AirAsia, NOK, 1-2-GO are all on the web-the earlier you book in your lazy chair at home-the lower the price. For the heritage full-service: BKkair or THAI-on their website too-their are NO discounts not shown on web for domestic travel

(it may be you post this as many old-style and un-updated travelguidebooks tell people to wait till in Thaild-thats hardly true anymore-and in fact never ever was the case for domestic travel by plane-it may still hold for some, certainly not all, inter-Asia short flites not served by low-cost carriers

ANY tr-agency in the tourist towns will have at least 1member of staff speaking enough of basic english to sort things out. If you think you cannot sail past them-dont bother with going all over town for some rec-just pick the one nearest to the place you stay

Cheaper to buy domestic routes once you are in Thailand, and travel agents vary wildly on what they will quote - so shop around.

NO-this is not right-and in fact hardly ever was-only in those days (a century ago) when THAI was the only one and computers were hardly used for airlinebookings. Domestic means inside the country, and as I wrtoe higher up-the lowcost airlines Like NOK and AirAsia are the cheaper the earlier you book-does not matter where in this world.

I challenge CAF to give any example-from this year on what he writes-and also really wonder why so many people seem to stick to the old-fashioned system

Thai Airways did not even exist a century ago. First flight in 1960 if i recall correctly.

Just did an internet search for costs from cmx to singapore booking in london; 8000 baht more expensive than booking on a CM site

Facts are not your strong point are they? Perhaps better not to give unssolicited advice to would be travellers

My advice to readers here is to check for oneself. But you will find that booking overseas is more expensive.

Thai Airways a century ago. :):D What planet are you on.
