Foreign Cars U See In Thailand

The car in Stingrays picture and used by the highway police is the Holden Calais, which is the Australian version of the Opel Omega A (sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Carlton). These are available in Thailand cheap, like the one in this link.

The car I'm talking about is the Opel (Vauxhall) Senator, also sold in Australia as the Holden Commodore. I've never seen one in Thailand.

Cheers

The Vauxhall Omega (Opel Omega 'B' outside the UK) was launched to the motoring press on December 16th 1993. The Omega was to be the replacement for the Vauxhall Carlton (Opel Omega 'A') and the Vauxhall Senator ranges with the Senator being directly replaced by the flagship Elite model.

Yes, cheap, but junk with a Toyota 7 M engine 95'k with usually broken leather seats, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't sell mine for 95'k. The 2,6 liter German engine was underpowered and had allways transmission problems. The one i have is all original, with nice velour interior

and 3.8 liter Buick engine, over 200 hp. There is the different.

Stingray I was not saying your car is overpriced, as I have no idea how much you are asking for it. I was pointing out that the Holden Calais is not the same as the Opel (Vauxhall) Senator as you suggested in an earlier post. The Senator's equivalent is the Holden Commodore, and I have never seen either of these in Thailand.

Cheers

As I was driving along the highway into Kanchanaburi a couple of weeks ago I passed a car transporter transporting a white sports car. I slowed up whilst overtaking it and saw that it was a Lamborghini with a soft top. Unfortunately, I don't know age or model but certainly the first Lambo I've ever seen in Thailand.

There are a good few here, from mid 90's to 2009 models.... seen some For Sale also anything from 7 million to 36 million.

Somewhere North of me there most be some sort of Rally every so often........ No idea where, some times see 20+ Supercars all following each other, yesterday 11 big Harley Davidson bikes overtook me all going north one behind the other at 10:50

Few weeks ago in a afternoon there were 9 Ferrari's following each other going south, have seen groups earlier this year Lamborghini's, different day Porsche, Aston Martin, Rolls etc one time there was a group that I have no idea what they were

Had one of those before, This is a older Holden Calais, year 89, sold un Europe as Opel Sentator. Same car, but different front- and tail light section and different dashboard. Australia had 3 liter engines, Thailand had only the 2 liter version. Unlike in Europe, where they use German GM engines, the Aussies used Nissan RB engines.

The Holden Calais was never sold in Europe as Senator. The Holden Calais was sold in Europe as Opel Omega A and in UK as Vauxhall Carlton.

The Holden Commodore was a Senator with different lights etc.

The 3.8 engine in the Calais was not a Buick engine, it was manufactured by Holden based on a Buick design.

It seems there are no Opel Senators in Thailand, just some Holdens that vaguely resemble them :)

Cheers

It's not quite true. 3.8 liter is a Buick engine, same engine is generally a GM engine, you can find even in olds or 6 cylinder Camaros. It's maybe built in australia but it's the same engine as in the Bukc Parkavenue in the early 90ties. This Holden Calais, i had, was the same car as Opel Senator from 1979 to 1985, but the calais was built until 1988 (Thailands Import 1989) The Holden Commodore was the Opel Commodore. Between Commodores and Senator there are differences at the rear quarter windows, similar as with the Aussie commodores and calais. See the pics i uploaded and compare:

Hi Stingray,

Yes it seems the earlier Senator A and the earlier Holden share more than a few common characteristics. As you probably know, the Opel Monza was the coupe version - quite an attractive car for 1978, unlike its 4 door brother.

Cheers

They did make a rather interesting version of the Opel Omega (or Vauxhal Carlton), one where Opel supplied a 3 liter 24 valve engine to Lotus, which then tuned it, increasing displacement to 3.6 liters and adding twin turbo's.

Result was a big, not very spectacular looking, family saloon doing naught to 100 km/h in just over 5 seconds and hitting a top end of close to 300 km/h!

Now that is a motor. Is that one here in Thailand?

I have seen a couple of nice Escort Cosworths, in very good condition which would be a nice toy to have over here.

Ahh the Lotus Calton I remember the police kicking off big time about why a car manufacturer would make a car like this as it encouraged fast driving + they had nothing in their fleet that would be able to keep up.....

I once test drove one + an early Skyline all in the same day (I ended up buying a 200SX on the day due to insurance premiums)
