HM THE KING'S BIRTHDAY

Birthday message from US Secretary of State

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sends birthday message to HM the King. (Watch the video)

On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I extend our very best wishes to his Majesty on the occasion of his 82 nd birthday.

Your Majesty, as the only U.S. born monarch in the world, you have played such an important role in shaping and strengthening the close friendship between the United States and Thailand. And we look forward to continuing our relationship with you, the Royal Family, the Thai people and the Thai nation in the years to come.

Your good works have been felt well beyond Thailand's borders. In particular your efforts to advance sustainable small scale agriculture in rural areas of Thailand are models for green development around the world. We are inspired, Your Majesty, by your energy, your enthusiasm, and your many accomplishments. As a gifted jazz musician, avid horticulturalist, best selling author and award winning sailor, you motivate all of us to live life to the fullest. And your compassion and humanity have made you a valued friend not only to your people and to the people of the United States, but to people the world over.

We wish you and your family good health and good cheer. And we hope you have a wonderful birthday.

HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej turns 82 today.

The Gazette joins the nation in wishing His Majesty a happy birthday

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej turns 82 today.

On the occasion of his birthday, His Majesty will grant an audience to his well-wishers at the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall inside the Grand Palace this morning.

His Majesty will reach the Amarin Winit-chai Throne Hall at around 10.30am.

Accompanying him will be HM the Queen Sirikit, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, HRH Princess Chulabhorn Valayalaksana and HRH Princess Srirasmi.

On behalf of the Royal Family, the Crown Prince will then officially wish His Majesty a happy birthday.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Parliament President Chai Chidchob will also convey best wishes to the King on the occasion of his birthday.

His Majesty will also give an address.

Channel 5 will televise the royal audience to be granted by His Majesty today.

While millions of Thais will stay glued to their TVs to watch the royal audience, a large number of the King's loyal subjects camped out at Siriraj Hospital last night to ensure that they can chant "Long Live the King" in His Majesty's presence.

According to a recent survey, Thais' happiness has increased because of the King's birthday celebrations.

Tonight, millions of Thais across the country will light candles and sing royal anthems in honour of His Majesty.

In Phuket, individual municipal authorities have scheduled various activities to mark His Majesty's 82nd birthday.

A procession is scheduled to start at 2.30pm from the Sea Pearl Intersection to Loma Park on Patong Beach, where Patong municipality officials will pay their respects to an image of His Majesty The King.

As December 5 is also marked as Fathers' Day in Thailand, Patong Mayor Pian Keesin will hand out 'Best Father' awards and prizes for paintings, poems and writing celebrating Fathers' Day.

Phuket Governor Wichai Phraisa-ngop is scheduled at 4pm to join officials and the public in paying respects to the King and singing the National Anthem.
