We are taking our car this trip to Samui so wanted to know the times of the car ferry & also if there is a way to pre-book or is it a case of turn up & wait?

Thanks for any advice

There are two ferry services to Samui. Raja and Seatran. Go with Seatran. A little bit faster and the ships are not as old as Raja. The trip is one and a half hours long. The first ferry is 5 AM and the last ferry is 7 PM. These times are from both sides (Donzak and Nathon).

Be aware that if you arrive late in the afternoon, you may not get a place. If Seatran is full, then try Raja. Prebooking is an option which you can choose. Happy motoring! :)

Thank screamingeagle for the advice, we are driving down from Khon Kaen & plan on taking it slow with a couple of overnight sightseeing stops on the way so will likely be there for one of the earlier ferries (10am-12pm). Once I have the plan worked out then I think pre-book as will have a toddler in the car, waiting in line, hot cars & toddlers do not mix :)

No problem. Bear in mind that if you pre book, you need to decide on a reasonable time to cross. Otherwise you might have a mad dash to get the ferry you are booked on.... :)

If you are going to stop over in Chumpon, make sure you stay at the Novotel there.

Cheap as chips and child friendly.

Have a great trip.

you used to be able to prebook the ferry through the bank of ayudhia ( yellow bank ) but they stopped that while ago as the ferry compan introduced a "member card" about a year ago for a fee of 1000thb to use this service.

if you go mid week around the time you say should have no issues of getting on .

They never stopped that. Maybe you could not find the directions at the ATM, but you can still book through BoA ATM (or member card).

nice to know ty birdman,

guess the clerk inside the ayudia bank was new or something ( used to book inside the bank not through the atm )

Do you need a boa card or any atm card will do ?

Good question - I used my BoA card only. (But first you have to call the Seatrans booking office and so on...as you might know.)
