Well its happened something has got into my hotmail/messenger account sent everyone a email saying" get a iphone cheap from this internet account" then it deleted all my contacts.I then tried my messenger account and saw my contacts there disappear in front of me.

No I did not have my contacts which I have built up over 10 years written down.Stupid YES I know but too late now "the horse has bolted"....What a nightmare. I have had automatically emailed messeges from friends with adverts over the last year but none of them has done this...the reason I knew what happened is that I had some returned emails from (via postmaster) contacts that now are dead accounts.

I hope this helps you all but I don't think it will as its seems its too late once you have opened one of these friend generated mails.

I have contacted messenger help and will leave it with them to see if they can retrieve my contacts. I could see from other posts at their site that this is a big problem. Any suggestions about future ways( I will write my contacts down now so not that one please) I can operate my email accounts will be taken on board..Thankyou and good luck with your security. Oh one other thing this has not effected my computer. I have run 3 different scans to check for virus etc. So its in microsofts server.

I had the same problem with one of my old Hotmail accounts. I think it was an invitation to see a slide show or something. Usually I don't click on these things but it was from a close friend.

Luckily I mainly used that account for subscriptions and such.

The problem now is that the virus keeps sending emails from my account (I don't who it sends to as I don't have any contacts left) and i get the usual email from Postmaster@... saying that the email can't be sent.

I think you can download Messenger Plus and see who has you on their list. Then you can add them again.

This is one of the problems with using online accounts over which you have no control. Why don't you use a proper mailer, or at least use Windows Live Messenger to keep copies of all your online mail?
