Tourist Visa Renewal For 90 Yr Old

Featured Replies

Mom is 90 yrs old and sister 65 yrs old, they want to stay longer and are US citizens on a 30 day Visa on arrival.

Any idea if Pattaya/Jomtien Immigration could or would extend 30 days, or better yet 60 days?

They reside with me and I stay on a Retirement Visa.

Could always drag them on a visa run, however it could be tiring for them.

Normally not. The legal framework would not allow them to give a 30 day extension, and when they are fit to travel they will not give it.

The best they can get is a 7 day extension, and they would be asked to show a confirmed outbound ticket.

A land border run would give them only 15 days, 30 days if done by air.

Anything more then 30 days and you'd need a full visa run, applying for a tourist visa, which wll give them 60 days on arrival, plus a 30 day extension if needed.

If they have the required income they could apply for a non-O visa themselves and extensions of stay based on retirement if need be. But this needs to be done abroad. Unless they have more than 21 days remaining on their permission to stay.

As Monty said, they now will not get more than a 7 day extension, and this will probably require a ticket out of the country within 7 days.

Thank you Monty, for the fast and concise answer. Was hoping for an exception for an older lady and daughter, but looks like a well defined policy.

Good idea Mario, but alot of paperwork for the non-O, so looks like a Visa run is in order.

Yep. Leave and return by land 15 days.

By Air 30 days.

Go to a consulate and apply for a Tourist Visa 60 days plus.

Is there any reason why a Retirement Visa cannot be applied for after leaving the country? It sounds like the Age limit is certainly met :)

Retirement visa (non-OA) is usually only granted in home country or country of permanent residence.
