TAT launches Internet call centre

By The Nation

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has established an Internet call centre to help visitors receive up-to-date tourism information and even lodge complaints.

Visitors to www.tourismthailand.org are urged to click on the 1672 Tourist Hotline icon on the lower right-hand side of the page. After selecting a language, visitors will be asked to fill in basic details, such as their name and e-mail address.

As of November 30, the centre had responded to inquiries from 3,074 visitors in 18 countries and territories: Japan, the US, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, China, Denmark, the UK, Switzerland, South Korea, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Indonesia and Thailand.

Suraphon Svetasreni, deputy governor for marketing communications, this week said: "The Internet call centre is one of numerous actions we're taking in response to the way people are interacting and communicating with each other in an increasingly online world. This service will be of help to travel agents, consumers and even hotel concierge desks."

There are plans to expand this facility in future, especially by adding assistance in more languages.
