Mae Sai Visa Run Tomorrow, A Question

Featured Replies

Hey folks, off to Mae Sai/Burma tomorrow.

Is there still a requirement that I have 20,000 THB on me?

I'm on a 90 day, double entry tourist visa. I entered on October 1st, went to immigration on November 29th, and paid 1900 THB to extend for my 30 days which got me a stamp until December 30th. I'd like to stay until March. Unfortunately, I didn't know at the time that I could've done a run for my second entry, or I would've saved myself the 1900 THB by doing a run for the border for my stamp.

Can't worry about that at this point though. I'd just like my run tomorrow to go smoothly.

Forgot to mention: the reason I'm going tomorrow is that my Visa says "use by December 16th" even though I have stamp allowing me to stay until December 30th.

It's my understanding that if I want to use the second entry on this Visa, I have to exit and return before the "Use by" date, regardless of what my extension stamp says. Is this correct?

A tourist visa will give you 60 days stay, which can be extended for a further 30 days at immigration. A double entry visa allows you to go through that process twice giving you nearly 6 months stay.

What you have done so far is correct. You need to do a border run and re-enter the country the day BEFORE your visa expires at the latest to activate the second 60 day stay period, and then extend again at Thai immigration for a further 30 days.

Very unlikely immigration will ask to see cash on entry, but it is the law. Take an ATM card with you, just in case is needed.

EDIT: Just seen your above post. You must do your border run by 15th December (before your visa expires), as you plan to :)

Thanks so much for clarifying that for me. I thought I had it right, but it was just confusing enough to make me doubtful. I'll be on the bus first thing in the morning. Cheers!

Have a good trip.

i tooo am in the same position. Does anyone know how much the visa is to enter Myanmar?

500 Baht payable to Mayanmar imigation

No need to enter Mayanmar But you do need to pay 500 baht and get the Stamp In order to come back over the bridge and enter Thailand

Is the Burma visa on arrival just a small stamp - or a full/half page sticker? My passport is almost full.

Thanks...

and and are you still able to pay in dollars?!??! i have also read on this site its 00B or 10 dollars?! Does anyhone know if this is true or not?

thanks

Hi all,

I just heard that Mae Sai border is closed due to election in Burma.

So can't do the visa run...

Is it true?

Someone did a visa recently?

Thank you

Officially, the old rules still apply. Sign posted indicate you must pay 500B or $10 USD. However, when I was there on September 9th, the immigration officials pressed me to pay in Thai baht. I ended up paying in Dollars as I was low in Baht. (I never take the "required" 20,000 Baht, by the way).

The Mae Sai border is open. No problems as of September 9th. You may have heard of the the Mae Sot border closings, which you can find elsewhere on this forum.
