Ratsima
About a month ago a new restaurant appeared in Korat on Mukkamontree Street, just a couple of doors west of the venerable PB Restaurant. เก้า คูณ เก้า (Nine by Nine) is run by a Swiss-trained Thai chef who is presenting a sort of Thai/Western fusion style of food. The flavors are wonderful and the presentation superb. You won't find anything like it in Korat. We dined there today and had a beef salad (ยำเนื้อ) with red grapes and a squid salad (ยำปลาหมึก) with mango and other fruits. For desert we had what was called 'chocolate cake lava'. This was a delicate chocolate souflé with chocolate sauce inside accompanied by raspberry sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream sitting on a bed of chopped peanuts. (This dessert takes a while because it's cooked to order. If you'l like to try, order when your main course arrives.) The total bill for the two of us was just over 300 baht; a bargain given the quality. So, if you're in Korat and in the mood for something a bit different, give เก้า คูณ เก้า a try. They are open daily, except Monday, from 11 AM until the late evening.
