Biden Admin to Announce Border Executive Action by Tuesday

The Biden administration is set to introduce a significant border executive action potentially as soon as Tuesday, as per two sources familiar with the discussions, though they emphasized that the timing is not yet fixed.

White House officials have initiated contact with mayors of cities along the US southern border, inviting them to potentially join President Joe Biden during the announcement of the order, according to two other sources familiar with these discussions.

For weeks, administration officials have been crafting an executive action aimed at substantially restricting migrants' ability to seek asylum at the US southern border. This effort is part of a strategy to strengthen Biden's position on a key campaign issue for his Republican rivals. The action aims to counter Republican criticism regarding border security and preempt former President Donald Trump before the first presidential debate on June 27, set to air on CNN.

Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza confirmed to CNN that the administration contacted him on Saturday to attend a White House event on Tuesday.

The anticipated order will likely mirror a contentious measure from the Trump era, utilizing an authority known as 212f to reduce unlawful border crossings between ports of entry.

CNN has previously reported that officials were considering announcing the executive action after Mexico's election on Sunday and before the first presidential debate. Biden is scheduled to travel to France on Wednesday.

"While Congressional Republicans chose to stand in the way of additional border enforcement, President Biden will not stop fighting to deliver the resources that border and immigration personnel need to secure our border," said a White House spokesperson in a statement. "As we have said before, the Administration continues to explore a series of policy options and remains committed to taking action to address our broken immigration system."

Several Texas mayors have previously voiced frustration over the heightened polarization of immigration issues, as tensions between Biden and Texas Governor Greg Abbott escalated. During his February visit to the US southern border, Biden met with Garza, Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, and Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez.

A White House official told CNN that no final decisions have been made regarding additional executive actions.

With border arrests down this year, partly due to Mexico increasing its enforcement efforts in January, the White House aims to capitalize on a temporary relief from one of the most politically sensitive issues in Biden's reelection campaign.

Some Democrats on Capitol Hill have also urged White House officials to consider having the president make another visit to the border in the coming weeks. However, a White House spokesperson previously told CNN that no border trip for Biden is currently being considered.

In recent weeks, the administration has implemented a series of policy changes to discourage migrants from traveling to the US and convince skeptical voters that they are tightening immigration control at the border. This includes new guidance and regulations to swiftly reject migrants ineligible for asylum and to expedite court cases for some migrants—measures that Biden officials hope will help maintain low numbers of border crossings.

Biden has such brazen cheek to finally do something he could have done 3 years ago and claim it is his idea. If ever a politician deserves to lose it is Biden for this piece of desperation.

There wasn't a problem until Biden rescinded all of trumps executive order that's created a crisis that got us to that point. You already know this. Let's see what the EO is but if it is anything like

Seems that posters with TDS forget that Trump was well on the way to sorting the problem when Biden cancelled the agreements with Mexico.

Let's see what the EO is but if it is anything like remain in Mexico we can infer this crisis was made on purpose. Turns out that young people including , blacks and Hispanics aren't on board with having unvetted gang members living in their rec  centers. If Biden walks it back now it is an admission of his failure to address the issue and creating a problem that didn't need to occur.

Yup,

Taking action to try to reverse some of his dumb moves he made just after he moved into the WH. What a disastrous wate of time!

At least Biden is doing something about the border.

Didn't we go through last week when I posted about Black men getting shot by police? Your response was that the absolute numbers were small, it was just a case of a small number of events getting widespread distribution in the news.

And now you are going with a small number of crimes by illegals, as if these are common. Illegals are less likely to commit crimes than US citizens.

Yep, for the past three and a half years he’s opened the floodgates for Mexico and OTM (other than mexicans) to enter.

Noticed how you mentioned Biden and not his appointed Border Czar who is even more worthless.

The people who live along the Southern border will strongly disagree with your statement.

Illegals shouldn't be here to have a chance to commit crimes. Seems pretty simple.

Illegal aliens shouldn’t be in the country in the first place.

US Citizens have the right to be in America.  Whether they are good or bad citizens.

See the difference?  I have a strong feeling, you don’t!

No he isn't.

He's pretending to in order to get votes for November.

Not so long ago you were claiming that it was all under control- less illegals or more illegals being caught- I don't remember which- than under Trump.

Now you seem to be reneging on your own claims and accepting that he has to do something ( even if 3 years too late ) because the situation is so bad.

LOL

I'll type slowly so you can understand.

The big problem now is that Border Patrol has not been given the resources to secure the border adequately. They are doing the best they can, and are catching more illegals than under Trump.

But, because of the booming economy, more try to enter the US, and the Border Patrol can't keep up.

The Republicans refuse to do anything about it.

But but but, it's all the GOP's fault that Biden is incompetent :cheesy:  Pity that Biden cancelled Trump's "remain in Mexico" agreement then.

If the border guards were not helping them get through the razor wire there would be less to catch. Perhaps a wall might help with that too.

It has always been under control. GOP is gaslighting the problem for their own political exploitation. A smart man like you shouldn't just accept false GOP narratives without knowing the facts. The solutions are in the bipartisan border bill that Trump doesn't want. Executive action only option for Biden who is only interested in solving the border problems. Trump's fault that no solutions yet for the border issues.

For a New Zealander, you seem to have a great interest, but little insight into the US border situation.

Here's the key point: the border is a tiny issue that simply doesn't impact most Americans. The Republicans run on it, because they don't have anything else, and have a deeply flawed presidential candidate.

Right. Just a tiny issue that simply doesn't impact most Americans.

Did You know biden offered mass amnesty to illegals.

https://nypost.com/2024/06/02/us-news/biden-admin-offers-mass-amnesty-to-migrants-as-it-quietly-terminates-350000-asylum-cases-sources/

What it does, according to AP

Quote

The White House is telling lawmakers that President Joe Biden is preparing to sign off on an executive order that would shut down asylum requests at the U.S.-Mexico border once the average number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry, with the border reopening only once that number declines to 1,500, according to several people familiar with the discussions.  https://apnews.com/article/biden-immigration-executive-order-asylum-border-7cd0b0f28e298036ad1fc6b0c78961e1

The newly elected president of Mexico is Claudia Sheinbaum. She has a PhD in energy engineering from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. She has written two books and more than 100 articles on the topic of energy and sustainable development. She was also on a team that won a Nobel Prize. She has pledged to defend the interests of Mexicans across the border.

Two things occur to me. First, whomever the US elects will be an intellectual dwarf compared to this woman. I expect her to outsmart them at every move. Second, I wish American presidents cared as much about their overseas citizens as she apparently does for her fellow Mexicans.

Maybe she should focus all of her intelligence on making Mexico GREAT FOR MEXICANS.

They would lose the incentive to become illegal aliens in America.

Isn’t that an amazing concept!

Mexico does that. They protect the interests of their citizens, which is why they have a rigorous voter ID system, restrictions on property ownership, and other measures. The fault isn't them. It's the American government which puts its own people last. And it doesn't matter who is going to be elected, Trump or Biden, they'll both put citizens behind benefits for refugees and neither will create a voter ID system or a citizenship test for public benefits.
