Can't Get True To Activate Internet On My Sim.. Tips?

So far I've spoken to 7 call-centre monkeys and had the pleasure of dealing with a chimp at the local TRUE shop. No good whatsoever. I managed to buy the 1 month package, no problem. Think I can get internet? Nope. It's fine on DTAC (what I'm posting on now) but TRUE's crap.

Tried the 9779 GPRS activation line, it's all in Thai and my Thai's not good enough to cope with "press 1 for ...." yet, especially when all the options sound identical. Tried call center "yes we activate for you" nope, you didn't, "yes we ring you back" no you didn't. You get the picture.

Is there any advice anyone can offer here?

Not clear on the specific tech issue.

You want to connect via your mobile GPRS/EDGE

to the internet ? If so, you do not need TRUE to get

online. Just GPRS minutes with a top up card.

When I connect this way, I dial *99#

Please clarify

I think you are using AIS .. the OP is using True.

to the OP ... do you have any Thai friends that can call for you? The options won't sound all the same to them.

Yeah I think I'm going to have to get Thai mates to help. I actually asked the woman in True to ring the line but she was utterly hopeless and seemed not to want to.

Paulfr, not a tech issue as such, an issue of how the bloody hel_l do you activate the GPRS on a TRUE sim. I'm techy, I can get most things working, but the lack of connection is as a result of a non-activated sim. The sim is TRUE, so yes I need TRUE top-ups. I've already topped up and bought the package. They won't activate the thing which I've paid for.

Well my GPRS is with DTAC and I never had to activate.

I just bought the top up card, entered the #'s and then was

able to connect with Windows and IE or Firefox.

Different procedures for different providers I guess.

Another possibility is that there is a delay of a several days

to get activated. I just had a problem with DTAC service to

get an expired # reactivated. Went to DTAC at Siam Paragon and

the lady told me it would take 4 days before I could top up or

use the number again. Seems to me the system should be able to

initialize immediately, but that is what they said.

JFYI

Yeah DTAC's a piece of cake to be honest, on my linux box I just plugged my Nokia in via USB, added DTAC from the list and I was on in an instant. I'm beginning to think 3G's not going to be worth the time or effort involved in getting it!

Latest: "It's activated" "So why do I get packet data connection not available and Web: Unable to perform operation then?" "I send you settings try again 15 minutes" "someone already sent settings" "I send again" *bangs head against wall*

Hi.

Is the device in question (phone? Modem?) set to use True?? Because having GPRS/EDGE activated on the SIM isn't gonna cut it if the device settings are still for D-TAC. I am talking about the "connection settings", "browser profile" or whatever it is called on your specific device.

Many phones originally bought in Thailand have preset "profiles" for the usual Thai providers and some phones even switch automatically when a SIM of a different provider is inserted. But most do NOT do that and you'll have to change to the other profile manually or, worst case, even have to create such profile by yourself (i had more than enough phones in my hand where no profile was set at all or only one, usually AIS but sometimes D-TAC).

And no, a phone which is not set to True will also NOT allow for a dialup connction via a computer. Been there and tried that. Won't work, phone has to be set for True. Experience with various Nokias, various Samsungs, i-Mobile and Sony-Ericsson.

Best regards......
