Featured Replies

Hi

In the post today my thai gf sent 6vlentine cards, 1 for my parents and 2 for each of my brothers and 2for me and 1 for her sister and husband who live closeby, is this normal in english we only send to a partner, is this is a Thai thing or is she just being sweet?!! -

Naturally I have sent her one but not her family - thoughts?

cheers in advance

Hi Silverdales, it's normal in the small village we live in, but on a different level. Most kids here buy valentine stickers and stick them on Mums, Dads, and other family members. They've banned these in the local schools for the past couple of years,(??), so most kids do it after school. It's very innocent, and quite nice, I think, to let your family know you love them and care about them, which most Thais seem to find difficult to do, openly at least. As the only uncle who's a farang, I usually get single roses off the kids, which I treasure. We generally have a family barbeque, (strictly non -alcoholic), and a bit of dancing, karaoke etc. Good innocent fun.

It's only been the last couple of years that cards have been sent to other family members here, before that they weren't generally available, or if they were, the cost was prohibitive.

Enjoy the day. :)

Do damage control now.
