Is Thai Visa Monitored By Thai Police

It's my understanding that The Ministry of Culture, about a year or two ago undertook the task of monitoring all internet traffic, especially to intercept or follow up content that is offensive to Thailand or its government, or system of government.

You mean the Ministry of Culture which every April trots out its geriatric leadership and warns young girls against wearing spaghetti strap tops? Yes, at the forefront of all things modern these guys. Whats the bet that the head of the ministry doesn't even know how to turn on a PC.

Yes of course ..same way they put cones in the road then watch TV ...supposedly to catch drunk drivers but fleece some poor Thai motorcyclists going to market without a helmet .......meanwhile intercity buses speed past at up to 150km/hr.... horn blaring......sigh....

I suggest aluminum foil cloaks and pie hats for everyone. :D

Tin foil pyramids on your head is very helpful too.w00t.gif

Better, wrap each finger with foil before you use the keyboard. That's really your only physical contact with the internet. Works for me. :)

OP,

I assume you know but perhaps it is worth stating: the Thai police/government do take a generally active role in monitoring and sometimes censoring the internet which can be seen in Thailand. Quite impressive actually for a weak and corrupt government that seems to be living in the dark ages in many respects. They have in the past blocked YouTube, certain parts of Wikipedia (related to a certain Special Somebody) etc.

I wont name them or their industries but several sites I use are often blocked by the government. They seem to always be redirected here (w3.mict.go.th). I've come across porn sites that get that too but that was not what I was referring to - though they do seem to actively block those as well, especially one with Thai themes or models.

I am mostly ignorant of Thai govt matters, but I know quite a bit about internet censorship in China. If anything about what they do in Beijing translates to what they do in Bangkok, then I would imagine that:

1. Their filters are based almost entirely around the Thai language and English-language sites in general won't be trifled with.

2. They will always be three steps behind whatever seditious thing is new and popular.

Be realistic folks, this is an anonymous internet forum with absolutely no influence on Thai society at all.

If anybody thinks that the RTP are going to waste time on on this forum reading a bunch of posts by bitter and twisted farangs complaining about sinsot or exchange rates and feel threathened in any way shape or form. you need your head testing.

Farang internet forums are not important enough to worry about.

Farangs have no political clout, you have very few rights, and sites like this suck up to the Thai laws and censorship just to stay in business,.

Don't worry chaps, you're quite safe.

ThaiVisa forum influencing Thai society ? :):D

I don't think so.

Thai guys only have to say BOO!!!!, to send Farangs scurrying away in a very quick fashion.

Farangs cannot understand, or find it hard to accept, they're not important enough in Thailand to worry about.

The British have two or three sites in the Uk that can monitor every phone call in the world, Be it land line or mobile phone, I would not like to quess about internet , i think Google do it for the CIA, not certain about the Uk.

this is not true

they cannot monitor certain phones,

the ones used exactly by those who wish not be be listened into by employing encryption style technology( why do think they try to make it illegal)

and if you use the old style methods of using one phone per person and changing numbers often you present such a logistical nightmare to then it become so much effort

please do not think one cannot thwart this invasion of personal liberty- you can- they do not want you to know this but it is possible

my favorite little game is to mention key words, such as anything related to terrorism ,flight numbers, important known persons,in all communications

the key word catchers will pick this out and a " look closer notice" which will lead to nowhere but cost a hel_l of alot of money time and effort

if we all did that we would bring this nonsense to an end, they simply could not follow up on all the leads

and, when you say the british, what you really mean is the yanks, they run the show, the brits once did, not anyomre,

now they are simple a department of the USA

I can tell you that Craiglist is, a guy was advertising something that is sold in all the night spots on the tables on the streets in full view although they are not the real thing, imitation, prescription drug he was set up for a buy by Thai cops in Bangkok. They told him because it is imitation if someone died from it he could be charged with murder. It cost him large to stay free.

That's just a cover for their secret rendition and wire-tapping programs. Some of us know the truth.
