Post-mosquito-bite Treatments

Featured Replies

What is a good treatment (cream or lotion) for after you have been bitten by a mosquito? I was bitten on my first night here, and every other bite since then pales in comparison. It is on my forehead. I could potentially pop it or squeeze it like a pimple, but that would make things worse. Any help? I don't want to just wait it out, and I'm afraid that its itchiness may make me scratch at night when I am not recognizing it.

Thanks for any tips.

Anadol is an Over The Counter (OTC) pain-killer that works well for me over these last five weeks since I got bitten by a mosquito. Tramadol HCI 50mg per tablet, so they say. Other than that, it probably depends on the mosquito but Savlon is a good salve for immediate relif at the target zone. It's an Australian brand of antiseptic cream and I have always brought it along with me in my travels so I don't know of a Thai alternative, but after the mozzie has gone, and you're left with the dengue fever, try Anadol and beer Chang in moderation.

put some baby powder on it, the itchiness will disappear almost immediately

That's pretty funny about the Chang beer treatment. I have had family members get the "dengue" in S. America and I heard it was no fun (to say the least).

Any of these things you guys mentioned available in Big C, Watsons, Boots, or a similar pharmacy? Please let me know. Btw, I can try the tiger balm, but I thought it was for pain, plus, I would hate to draw more attention to the area.

Thanks guys

Good idea! Go with the tiger balm. I never though of that. Tiger balm is better than Savlon in the immediate intent.

Good night and good luck.

Puss in a mozzie bite, is that a bit unusual? :)

Monkey Holding Peach! and i like to roll one up, that usually distracts me from just about anything that's bothering me at the time :)

sambuk as mentioned in another thread the other day

Also might try popping your antihistamine of choice. The swelling and itching is an allergic reaction.

the thai mozzie bites are weak compared to a nz mozzie bite,

i find the itchyness from a thai one goes away after a day, a nz one could last days

I was absolutely mauled by a gang of these bastids a week or two ago. They made a feast out of my calves and ankles, and I never felt them biting, so I had about 100 bites. My girl got me a can of that Sambuk stuff Donnyboy mentioned (can find it in Family or 7-11) and it did help a bit, but I had just way too many bites for it to be really effective. I ended up going to boots and the girl behind the pharmacy counter gave me fexofenadine tablets to take. They stopped the itching in about 30 minutes from taking the first dose.

i get revenge on the little buggers.....

we leave our washing hanging outside overnight, and the little bastards swarm like <deleted> to a blanket on them, so when i get up, i get my electric mozzie zapper, and do my impersonation of Roger Federer with them :)

I do get bitten now and again, but for some reason the bites don't give me much problem. My Thai b/f, however, gets simply feasted on by the little swine and really suffers from them.

Best treatment we've found is Antergan cream: made in Thailand, very cheap (about 25 Baht a tube if I remember rightly) and available from almost any pharmacy or small drug store. Just an anti-hystamine type cream that quickly stops the itching and reduces the swelling. I found it very good for dealing with a rash caused from some evil plant I must of handled during a spell of gardening.

Savlon is really an antiseptic cream (and first class at that), great for clearing up the mess if you've scratched the bite till it bleeds, but as has been said before, it can't deal with the allergic reaction to the mozzy bite that actually causes the itching and swelling in the first place.

i think the name is something like cortysol cream/lotion, forget tiger balm etc its useless, just go to pharmacy, u can also get pills to help as well
