Pepper Spray

A lot of dogs are immune to pepper spray. Oddly enough, some humans are immune to pepper spray too.

Have to take your word for it that some people are immune to pepper spray, although it seems unlikely. However stating that "a lot of dogs are immune to pepper spray" is, frankly, rubbish.

As for the OP - I assume its legal as its sold openly.

As are various medications, pornographic movies and assorted weaponry.

I'll take your word for it. Personally, I haven't found guns openly sold on stalls in Jung Ceylon (unlike pepper spray) or pornographic movies.

Similarly, I've only found legal medication in the pharmacy - they may be illegal in the UK, but they're legal here.

Tell that to the Aussie guy arrested for buying valium.

I thought valium had been made legal! Heard before it was illegal but as I'd never used it, it didn't bother me.

Then a few days ago I slept awkwardly on my back and the muscles on the top of my back had tensed up. A friend recommended valium (as a relaxant) and votlarin.

I was suprised when the pharmacist sold me valium (but then again I only asked for one) and the pharmacist knows me as I always go there.

Pepper Spray (oleorsin capsicum) is in my own personal experience one of the best non lethal forms of defense effective against dogs or humans. Like most things, it is not 100% perfect amd there are a very few dogs and people that can fight through the pain (especially people high on drugs) however with few exceptions it is considered highly effective. If you want 100% protection consider carrying a 45 automatic as a backup! :) My gf usually carries a small canister of Pepper Spray in her purse and since it is readily available in LOS so I have always assumed it to be legal to be used defensively (but have no knowledge of actual Thai law) however do know that in places where pepper spray is legal, it is usually only legal to be used defensively and not offensively (which makes good sense).

Pepper Spray - it's illegal - period, but easily purchased and lots of folk keep one in the cubby hole of their cars (and elsewhere). Get caught and it will probably get taken away from you - and expect to pay PLOD a "confiscation admin fee" - I'd think it very unlikely you'd get thrown out. Have a formal complaint laid against you for using it and PLOD now has to placate the complainant as well - things could get complicated.

Valium - also illegal without a doc's perscription, but like pepper spray, lots of pharmacists have stock and Thailand's CD (controlled drug) auditing is a mess - so its easy to sell under the counter, and many pharmicists do.

When it comes to dogs, a special pepper spray with a different formula should be bought. Several "anti-dogs" pepper sprays exist on the market. A regular pepper spray will usually not work on an enraged canine.

When it comes to humans, oddly enough, it seems that it all comes down to the ethnicity of the person attacked with pepper spray. Simply put, black people seem to react less to pepper spray than white and asian people. It goes from a slightly less painful reaction to virtually no reaction at all. And I have seen that myself. One of my former colleagues, who happened to be black, had only a very mild reaction after a direct spray.

A nice big can of white spray paint works almost as well. It certain identifies the culprit later. It just doesn't show up as well on white dogs. It DOES show up nicely on nasty people with brown skin, though. It ain't much fun getting spray paint in the eyes, and you can buy the stuff anywhere. The fine spray nozzle even works on flying bugs such as attacking wasps. I had to use it one time when getting rid of a wasp nest.

Reminds me that Wasp Spray would work better. Shoots up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker and tell them to get to the hospital for an antidote. Its inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20+ feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, spray the culprit in the eyes. Keep a can or two in strategic places like your bedroom and business office.

Since I can't own a pistol, I've thought pepper spray would be a good second choice. I've never seen it for sale (in Issan). Any ideas on where I could buy it...(ie) 7-11, Tesco or what kind of small shop might have it?

Can be bought in most Army stores in the markets here. We bought a tin at the market in Nong Khai.

As said It Is Illegal, and one will can get themselves into deep shit for using it.

Nothing has changed in the law, just because one can acquire it does not make it legal.

You are forewarned.

Cheers.

Moot point. As we have all learned, it is cheaper to hire a red shirt guard to do your dirty work for you than to buy pepper spray. They come in two colors -- red or black. The black version is more potent.
