My daughter is interested in attending Thewphaingarm School in Bang Phlat and I would like to find out as much as I can about the school. I looked at the school website http://www.thewphaingarm.ac.th/ and received a pretty good impression.

Does the school have a good reputation academically and otherwise?

Is it a boarding school or do the students live and take their meals outside the school grounds?

What would the typical yearly costs be for a student there?

What are the entrance requirements?

Is there any other information that you feel is important to know?

Thank you!

The school has a very good reputation (apart from their 'Red' affiliation and a Nazi Sports day blooper!)

They have two programs EFF (English for Future) which teaches English (with Native Speakers i believe) and TSEP (the immersive English program with English, Science, Social, Maths and Computers taught in English.

The school does have on-site boarding facilities (one of the few left in BKK)

The entrance requirements depend upon the colour of your money. I cannot remember the fees.

Overall, the school is good. It streams it's teachers better than most schools in Thailand and does not just employ teachers based upon their nationality and a TEFL certificate.

My only main criticism of the school is the Thai side.

Even in TSEP, the Thai side still use draconian methods of teaching.

'I read, you repeat, don't you dare think for yourself!'

In this day and age it would be nice to see a more holistic approach to teaching, instead of the spoon feeding!

The Thai administration really bring TSEP down. But, in their defence, it seems to be common theme in the Thai Education System nationwide.

Thewpaingarm school has a really good reputation. I know some parents of students whom have gone on to higher education and are successful today. I have also had a chance to visit the school and I believe that the school's boarding program is superior if not the best in Bangkok because of the facilities, supervision and care given to the students.

Also Dr. Nahathai the school's current director whom received her PHD from the US has implemented newer teaching methods beyond just pure academic achievement such as critical thinking, focus on technology and an aim to provide students with a well rounded education.

There is an entrance fee + yearly tuition fee. I'm not sure what the exact fee is but it's a Thai private school which means that the tuition is not nearly as high as those at the international shools.

Eventhough it's a Thai-program based school there is a good mixture between Thai and foreign teachers. All of the teachers are very good because of the high standards in selecting teachers and the quality of the curriculum.

I hope that this helps.
