Does anybody know if it's possible in case of an emergency for a Thai to get a visa to the UK in one day?

My father died on Friday in UK and we need to get back for the funeral ASAP. My girlfriend of ten years and several previous UK visas is going to the embassy in the morning. Any ideas, advice would be gladly received.

Thanks,

Firstly, my condolences on your loss; both my parents have died in the last three years, so I know how you feel.

Secondly, tell your girlfriend not to go to the embassy; all UK visa applications must now be submitted via the UK visa application centre (see here for address and opening times).

She should hand in her application form, fee and supporting documents and explain the situation; if you cannot go with her then a letter from you would help. (Normally only applicants are allowed into the VAC, but in these circumstances they may let you in as well.)

There does seem to be a longer than normal processing time at the moment, probably due to a large number of student applications being submitted, and although applications are normally dealt with on a strict 'first come, first served' basis, there is provision to 'jump the queue' in emergencies; I do know of people in a similar situation who have handed in their application in the morning and been called back to collect their passport and visa the next day, or in one case the same afternoon! So she should get there early.

If she has not been to Regents House before, tell her to be careful of people approaching her and claiming that they can help with her application; they do not work for the VAC, but a visa 'agent' company and will attempt to extract a large fee from her to do what she should be capable of doing for herself. Tell her not to talk to anyone about this, and definitely not to give her application to anyone, unless she is inside the VAC and that person is wearing the VAC uniform.

Once the visa has been submitted call the Embassy the following day... go straight through to the operator ( ext. 0 ) and explain. My mum has cancer and I submiited the visa for my daughter last wenesday. I didn't hear anything back from them, and so called them today. Her application hadn't even been looked at. After the call they had it processed in 10 minutes.... one hour later I was back at the visa agency with her Visa in hand.
