Thanks for all the feedback on my initial post.

I am looking for help re a short term rental (up to a month), in or near central Chiang Mai from early August. Unfortunately the serviced apartments seem to be only 1 or 2 bed places. I need a minimum 3 bed place while we house hunt for a longer term rental place. Needs to be a decent place preferably with access to a pool. Not asking much but then again "shy bairns get nie broth"!

I agree with Thighlander. I live in Ban Wangtan and would recommend it. There are lots of houses to rent here - best thing to do is to take a drive around and make a note of the telephone numbers of the properties you are interested in. Nice swimming pool and good restaurant overlooking the lake.
