Looking at the pictures posted recently, some of the pics dated 16th. I can't believe some of the idiots still have their babies at this demonstration. Is it they're idiots or don't care? When the military goes in will the brave red leaders have these people as their "shock" troops? ie these are the ones that wil be used to shock the western media.

Maybe the babies also qualify for payments!!

Operation human shield in action.

Surely any responsible protest leader anticipating a crackdown would advise the women and kids to find safety. Instead (according to one source on Twitter), they're dragging them on stage.

Red sympathisers, let's hear your excuses for this one.

PAD's women human shields show no fear

PENCHAN CHAROENSUTHIPAN

The dozens of women _ young, middle-aged and old _ who serve as human shields protecting the nine key leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) show no fear in carrying out their risky mission. One of the PAD's female guards, Tong, 34, who runs her own business, said she was not afraid of confronting anti-riot police, as she believed the officers would not dare to attack women.

''If I have no other choice, I will squeeze their private parts until their faces turn green,'' she said.

Mrs Tong and 10 of her family members have been involved with the PAD rally since it began in May.

She has been assigned to guard gate 4 of Government House, opposite the Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission.

The gate is located near barriers set up by police armed with anti-riot gear.

She said she never gave a thought to the danger when she volunteered to be a human shield for the PAD leaders, who she said deserved protection.

''[The PAD leaders] expose facts about the wrongs carried out by corrupt politicians,'' she said.

Rak, 26, a bachelor's degree holder, said she volunteered as a guard for the PAD as many of the demonstrators were elderly or middle-aged people.

She has learned how to protect herself and others if anti-riot police moved to disperse the protest by using tear gas or pepper spray.

''I honestly believe that the police will not act violently against women,'' Rak said.

Maew, 21, a native of Trat, said she accompanied her father, who wanted to join the PAD.

She decided to be a PAD guard to protect her father and other demonstrators. She said she feared nothing.

Human shields are the PAD's main strategy for dealing with police. Those who serve as human shields are mostly women who volunteer for the front-line positions to protect their leaders. Each human shield comprises 300 to 400 women.

Those serving as human shields said they would firmly join hands to form a chain if police attempted to break up the protest.

I'm pretty sure closing airports is more detrimental to trade and tourism than malls.

This is very subjective.

I only fly about once every few years, so I do not care if PAD shut the airports of not.

However I shop at least twice week, so closing airports is less detrimental to trade and tourism than malls. To me at least.

Guess what, my favourite mall is Gayson Plaza.

And your shopping for luxury goods is more important than anything else?

Don't feed the troll stevo, the guy is obviously on a wind up mission.

...It seems that many ordinary Thais have no problem with Abhisit or Korn, EXCEPT that they are surrounded by others whom they believe to be corrupt and CRITICALLY, fail to weed them out and thus are thus seen to be not even handed...

What do they expect when they continually vote for the same corrupt bunch of Newins, Chavalits, Chalerms, Banharns et al? Honestly, these people complaining about corruption, and their position in society, have had nine chances since 1988 to do something about it by voting for fresh politicians, yet what do they do? They take the short term money and choose the same same but definitely not different everytime. Do they never wonder that if they had a few good men at the top, with a team that they had full control over, rather than a fractious coalition with every party competing for its share of the loot, then they and the country would be better off?

Exactly the point. Real change will be a long time coming.

In the meantime, Abhisit could gain a great deal of credit by firing some of these people before dissolving the house.

Ultimately I hope cooler heads will prevail and support incremental change for the good.

Read my lips, he can't fire anybody, he is a puppet. Without all the guys in his coalition he's got nothing. The only guy who's ever had the numbers was Thaksin.Without the rural poor nobody in Thai politics can have a proper mandate. The sooner the Democrats come to their senses and realise this , the sooner Thaksin will cease to be a player. Now all we need is a pragmatist and it'll be over. At the moment it's loggerheads because the powers can't bring themselves to give a little to those who toil the land, work the factories and constructions under terrible conditions. Have you ever seen a construction site in BKK? That's an eye openner , people live on site in squallor , no safety and long hours for a pittance.

Would you drive a taxi in BKk on a 12-14 hour shift for a daily wage for substinance? Just a couple of examples of exploitation and no choice for anything better.

If I am the commander, I would:

1. Drop a dozen of their best snipers on the roof top of surrounding building via helicopters.

2. Aim and shoot both legs of all the RED leaders (not to kill them, just wound them).

3. Airlift the snipers out.

4. Repeat from step one to three, everyday, at 8am & 6pm when evryone (including the RED) will have to stand up for the national anthem.

Since the legs of the RED leaders are injured, they have to go hospital, nearest of which is the police hospital. The police can then arrest them there will they were receiving treatment.

Does anyone think this is a peaceful way to end the standoff?

In what way is shooting people a peaceful solution?

If kids were in the front line with their parents at the Yellow demonstration then they were wrong too, if they knew a confrontation was possible. However the violence has started with 20+ dead and 800+ hurt. (I'd be interested to know which way the dead were facing at the time of death if shot from behind.)

It's a pretty rubbish defence by any standard, bot more so given their actions during the airport takeover lost them the support of the regular Thais. Something for the reds to learn from? The problem lies with the word "learn".

Reds receive stern Army warning

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- PAD re-emerges to give government an ultimatum; security forces will never allow a repeat of use of force against anti-riot troops, Army spokesman says

The Army yesterday gave the red shirts a stern warning against staging a rally on the prohibited Silom Road - as the crisis grew more complicated with the People's Alliance for Democracy re-emerging to give an ultimatum to the government.

Security forces would never allow a repeat of use of force against riot troops, Army spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday, suggesting tough measures will be used to stop the protests spreading from Rajprasong intersection to Silom Road.

However, Sansern said troops will only disperse the red shirts when the timing is right.

"If I say when, the operation is doomed to fail," he said.

The rally by the red shirts, due to held on Tuesday, was just a gimmick to use crowds as shields to safeguard leaders facing arrest, he said.

Numbers at Rajprasong quite a lot, he said. The crowd surged to around 13,000 on Saturday night and dropped to about 4,000 yesterday morning.

The anti-riot force would not allow the reds to parade around the capital or set up a new site at Silom, he said, vowing to contain the rally where it is.

He said a number of special operations teams were dispatched to stakeout high-rise buildings around the rally site in order to prevent any infiltration by armed terrorists.

Crowd control measures would be stepped up and protesters discouraged from entering Rajprasong. Police will issue citations for those who refuse to heed warnings at the barricaded zone.

"Whatever happens, there will be no repeat of assaults against the riot forces, seizures of official vehicles and arms," the Army spokesman said.

He said the riot forces were under strict instruction to exercise restraint but would have the right to repel life-threatening attacks. He also ruled out concern over the enforcement of martial law.

Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan said the government had veered off course by trying to fault the red shirts for harbouring terrorists in their midst.

Jatuporn demanded the red shirts have equal access at stakeout points set up by the riot forces. In the April 10 violence, a lot of people were shot dead by gunfire from buildings, he claimed.

Red-shirt leaders insist Silom protest will go ahead

Red-shirted leaders still insisted on a protest on Silom but were vague on how it would take place, only urging red shirts in rural areas to travel to the capital and take part in the upcoming mass rally.

Metropolitan Police Region 1 commander Maj-General Wichai Sangprapai said he was negotiating with the red shirts - to try to limit the rally near Siam Discovery to Pathumwan intersection, and to shift loudspeakers away from Chulalong-korn Hospital.

Police have beefed up security at Bangkok Bank headquarters after the red shirts threatened to rally on Silom Road.

Businessmen for Democracy Club secretary-general Pornsak Limboonyaprasert said any protests on Silom would inflict untold damage on the business community.

The PAD, meanwhile, gave the government seven days to resolve the crisis with the red shirts or the movement would organise counter rallies which could have unknown consequences.

All core leaders of the PAD, except Sondhi Limthongkul, and about 3,000 ranking members turned out at Rangsit University auditorium to "brainstorm" a way out of the political predicament.

It was the first gathering of the yellow shirts from across the country since the red shirts began their Bangkok rally on March 12.

"The red shirts have caused polarisation with words like 'prai' and 'ammat' but their real intention is to mobilise the masses as a means to transform the political system," Chamlong Srimuang said.

The violence on "Black Saturday" would not have erupted with so many soldiers killed if the government had taken effective legal action against the red shirts, he said.

Somsak Kosaisuk said any drastic reform of the government system should come via Parliament.

"I believe Thais don't want chaos," he said, referring to the violence-prone street protests by the red shirts.

Pipop Thongchai blamed fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Pheu Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh for the April 10 violence.

Hardcore leftists and certain remnants of the nowdefunct Communist Party of Thailand had teamed up with the red shirts to try to trigger a civil war, he said.

The PAD issued a statement condemning Thaksin and his army of red shirts for trying to incite a rebellion.

Pheu Thai Party, the red shirts and a private army were seeking to agitate the public, leading to an uprising, it said in the statement.

IS A MASSACRE BEING PLANNED? .. "Elite forces from all three branches of the armed forces and police are being mobilised to carry out "operations" to remove red-shirt demonstrators..."

The Red Shirt demonstrators are seeking the resignation of the Government and free elections.

The solution is simple, the Government should resign and call "free" elections and stop blaming its incompetence on a Mr T, a person of no fixed abode.

Abhisit and his Government must resign?

Abhisit has no mandate to govern he was never elected in a democratic vote. He was appointed.

If he had been elected in a public vote he would resign as he no longer enjoys popular support.

This illegitimate Government is not deploying troops to defend democracy, the troops are there purely to defend an undemocratic unelected Government.

Never fear a soldier fear his faceless master ... who is currently hiding in a bunker!

Interesting to note, a totally different scenario of the power of the people; during the time of the public outpouring at Princess Diana's death the House of Windsor's was initially reluctant to give her due respect and a State Funeral.

Q Elizabeth later stated words to effect "we underestimated the peoples' wishes and we then had to remind ourselves we remain only as long as we enjoy popular support."

The 'people's support tore down the Berlin Wall. It was the 'people' who spent weeks on the streets of Edsa and got rid of the dictator Marcos in the Philippines.

People Power will always Prevail!

Too many Governments when in a corner state we must maintain the "The Rule of Law".

What does this mean?

It means the Rule of Law is the "Rule Of The Gun"!

He who controls the most guns usually wins!

Except when it comes to People Power because the shooting innocent of unarmed civilians is a "War Crime" and deemed to be a Crime against humanity.

The perpetrators know at some stage they will be held accountable whether or not they say they were provoked by black shirt terrorists!

Thailand is now tearing itself apart. WHY ?

For years you were the greatest country in Asia with the best and friendliest people and foreigners loved visiting for the best sights and the best time in the world!

We felt safe and secure. No more!

Where are the Leaders and future Leaders?

Someone please stand up, stop the self destruction and war mongering and take control.

Leadership from the highest authority is urgently required !

The reds ARE nothing because they don't have the support of the coalition parties.

Don't you understand, that's the way democracy works. You need to get the majority of support.

Abhisit currently has the support of all the coalition parties. He has the support of the representatives of the majority of the people in Thailand.

The reds want to come to power even though they only have the minority support of Thailand. That's not the way democracy works.

A group of well armed men, a few hundred up to a thousand surrounded by 100,000 people, can wreck an invading group hel_l bent on m,oving the reds.

You saw 250 Thai military shot with mainly rubber bullets last time.

If a large group were to attempt to push the reds out, the red snipers armed with machine guns and automatic rifles, would fill the streets with dead Army.

Some of you, in fact most of you, are unaware of the realities of an urban battle.

The men in black can move about easily all over Bangkok because nobody knows who they are. If you attack the maul area attempting to move them and capture them, they will drop huge numbers of the Thai army down dead. Then, if they do decide to leave, they simply will fade back into the city and start again in another location.

By huge, I mean think about it.

A few hundred special force snipers on the red side can certainly kill a few thousand Thai army should the Thai army group go close. Most of the men in black were not even used the last time and they shot 250 in a short time. The bigger the group to shoot at, and the more they will shoot.

Come in with tanks and they will shoot the tanks with bazookas and rockets.

They have them.

Friends in the Thai military, watermelons, are giving the fire power.

You make your bet and I will make mine.

I bet the Thai military does not attack the shopping mauls.

You see, they do not want to die for a cause they do not believe in.

A major meltdown in the Thai system is taking place.

Thai propaganda posters ( Paid by gov) here who are thai--good luck if your side loses.

You will need it.

So the next time 100,000 people come out calling for an election, the next government will call an election too, won't they. And then after that ............

No, only the Reds ask for elections. The yellows don't like elections, because they can't win them. They like coups, legal disqulifications and hiding behind censorship and anti-free speech laws.

Your logic explains why PAD created a new political party to run in elections , right?

Uh, you are missing a few pieces in your arbitrary puzzle me thinks.

Tong, 34

Rak, 26

Maew, 21

Not much of an excuse.

Actually it sounds like PAD is all for equal rights for adult women, which is a good thing, even if it is potentially suicidal in nature. It's still a choice that is being made by an adult.

There's a huge difference between the article's adult women and the aforementioned red babies.

As Thaksin urged them, bring even your "grandchildren".

Actually people have taken their children or borrowed other peoples children to take to this demonstration, perhaps they thought the whole affair would be an easy pushover, but its not and it will get nasty over the next week, those kids should be sent home asap. but I guess they wont, as the red leaders will tell them lies again. The only saving grace is that the type of commandos they are bringing in will be crack marksmen, but what about the mental health of those kids when they are exposed to blood and guts of their guardians splattered everywhere? :)

No this is not peaceful.

It is one way to end it, but would have been tried already if acceptable.

I do think those snipers are already on the roofs though.

I have thought about tranquilizer darts... though they are not good for long range.

One way or another your 'solution' above might be LESS bloody than what may be tried...

Top Army, Navy Units Readied For Red-Shirts Dispersal

If this happens I fear the Red -Shirts may disperse temporarily only to regroup and then begin an all out armed insurgency. Many could die and the country be plunged into Iraq-like chaos. Why not just bring back the 1997 Constitution, hold a free and fair election and respect the outcome of that election? I fear we have only seen the tip of the iceburg of the madness that could occur.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken.

But I thought the whole point of Special Operations deployments was that you don't tell the other side you're coming :)

thats true Crossy, if you want to surprise and kill them outright

if you don't, then its good strategy to instill a little fear in the enemy

let them know and see whats coming and give some time for those who don't have the stomach for a fight to leave

i believe i advocated this in my post yesterday

looks like someone in authority was reading it...

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Rajprasong-H...ts-t357069.html #13

this article gets to the root of the problem in trying to remove these protesters

the authorities have allowed then to get comfortable, they are well fed and watered

they have bathing facilities, toilets and entertainment.

if it came to a fight they are well rested and ready for it

the authorities should effect some measures to change that situation before making any efforts to move them

a little sleep deprevation would go a long way towards success

so lets bring in some huge mobile disco units, surround the site with them safe behind army/police lines and serande them with some very sad Thai songs that refer to dead relatives, lost loves, long dead favourite buffaloes, loss of sons, daughters, motorbikes etc

lets set the tone for a massive loss, lets get people thinking about a loss/death of a relative.

lets get them thinking about their own mortality and how their death might affect their family

lets get some huge projectors and use it to project images onto nearby buildings, of their beloved leader and his HiSo family enjoying the high life on his private planes, private yachts and reflecting his extravagent living in expensive hotels.

there is no need for sound, just add subtitles that tell them how Thaksin is spending the money he stole from them and how he is travelling the world in luxury whilst they sleep on the streets.

you could do comparison shots, him-you, him-you

a general mood should be created of anticipation of an attack by the troops

one that will come in the early hours

paranoia should be introduced at every opportunity

the minds of the combatants will do the rest

bring in some big troop carrying helicopters in the daytime and very loudly and very visibly drop heavily armed troops on to the top of buildings surrounding the rally area

have them dramatically drop down ropes to the roofs SAS style

these guys do not need to actaully be military, they could even be amateur mountaineers, no need for them to have weapons

this can be documented by officials before hand

its just to introduce a little paranoia to the crowd

start and encourage rumours amongst the crowd that they are surrounded by hundreds of snipers.

let them think that every time they see the glint of the sun on a window its a snipers scope

this can easily be done by officials infiltrating the crowd

Thais love rumours

have a few very visible and highly publicised drive bys of the area by big tanks laden with fully armed troops with very visible weapons like rocket launchers, grenade launchers and maybe even towing some howitzers.

let the reds see whats actually on the move against them

more paranoia

lets have some very visible substantial troop movements by some very heavily armed troops

preferably known to be from the south or the borders with Burma and Cambodia were they are used to dealing with insurgents

have them fly into Don Mueng live on TV

this should be highly publicised and rumours about what they are doing in Bangkok should be circulated to the reds

rumours should circulate that martial law is going to be introduced

rumours should indicate a shoot to kill policy is in place for those who do not obey the armys orders

rumours should tell the reds that they should write letters to their loved ones and family whilst they have a last chance to do so

more paranoia

rumours should circulate that somehow the army has added some kind of powerful sleeping draft to the water supplies

also to the bottled water being supplied to them

also to the food, and that they should treat everything with suspicion now

tell them if they feel sleepy they should report to the medical tent immediately

tell them they should not go to sleep and that it could be dangerous to go to sleep

tell them its the same kind of drug that katoeys use on clients in Pattaya, they will know of many that have died whilst being robbed.

to make sure show news clippings in Thai on the projectors of the deaths

more paranoia, less sleep

at night when things do settle down, the army should safely detonate huge exposive charges in the immediate area

if not explosives then launch huge fireworks every 20 minutes

send off flares to illuminate the area

this will keep them awake and think that the war starting

it will make for less sleep and more paranoia

it may even flush out the ronin warriors who could be taken out by snipers

have some snipers stationed with their spotters with a recording equipped spotting scope

that way when the kill is made it can be seen afterwards by the media to have been on an armed person, not an innocent protestor and therefore a justifiable kill

in the early hours of the morning stealth helicopters could drop capsicum onto the crowd using a crop dusting attachment

fire fighting chanooks could drop thousands of gallons of water onto the stage and take out the electrics and give then a songkran treat too

one could get unidentified bodies from the morgue, dress them in red shirts and leave them in areas near to the rally

they should be in a position where they can easily be found

it should be rumoured that there are reds in the crowd that are with the army and government and that they are picking off the protestors one by one

they should be told to look at your neighbour with suspicion and care

you might be the next victim !

more paranoia.........

what happened to the body beforehand should be well documented and can be proven as false flag bodies later when the reds point fingers at the Army

rumours to promote paranoia and sleep depravation should circulate all the time, maybe that the US has joined the fight, maybe the SAS, the Gurkhas or Mossad

maybe that private contractors from Blackwater have flown into to Thailand from Iraq

maybe a local building should be blown up by the army as a message to the reds

the paranoia value would easily cover rebuilding costs

the red who go home every night and return next day should be made to stay at the rally ground and told that a night attack is coming and they are needed at the site to defend each other

keep them there all the time with false rumours and deprive them of sleep too

if i was in charge these reds would not have more than 10 minutes peace day or night

their heads would be full with black magic, broken buddahs, defeatist thoughts, paranoid ideas and rumours

their imagination would do what the army cannot do at this time

ok, i have to get on now, other points to address, feel free to add to the diversionary ideas i have proposed

remember all should be relatively non violent and should intended to increase paranoia and sleep depravation not to take lives

once they are literally tired out then the army should attempt move them

less sleep=less fight

Or just dissolve parliament. :D

Obvious answer for a man who truly loved his country - appeal to the people for a MANDATE - Abhisit, clearly, only thinks of his own political ambition form his 'bunker' in Army HQ - this is spiralling and he will never be forgiven

I agree.

The city could start to burn.

The reds can win simply by destroying the city.

But

I do not think the Thai military groups are in any hurry to go in with the men in Black shooting real bullets at them.

Did all of you ever look at what this current regime did to the students at Thamasat University? They killed Thai college students in the hundreds if not thousands.

So much for the Thai love for other Thai people.

The reds have at long last figured out the game.

When you play against scum you must play like scum to win.

They might burn the city down, so I hear.

Why do red supporters keep coming out with "Abhisit wasn't elected"?

Can a red supporter please explain to me how their version of elections show that Abhisit wasn't elected?

Thailand is tearing itself apart because of one corrupt billionaire. And it's only because he didn't get control of the army that we are not living under the rule of his gun.

He wasn't elected - go read - I can't be bothered to repeat the arguements - the red government (which was elected) was banned and MPs jumped ship - do your homework

This is what I fear most - no matter where youre sympathises lie - we do NOT want this - if Abhisit does this he will NEVER be forgiven and it will be a temporary victory - put the country FIRST - get a MANDATE and I would support him 100%

1) the military coup written constitution is more favourable to the government

2) there are no free and fair elections in Thailand (The old and new elite buy the patronage of the Nai who then instruct the Phrai how to vote)

3) The government would lose the election and the new government could then select the new army leadership thus making subsequent coups more difficult

4) No one seems to respect the results of elections- if the reds win, the yellows protest; if the democtrats form a government by 'influencing' the coalition parners, the reds come out

5) Everyone is so entrenched in their own dogma and constrained by their own loyalties, dialogue and compromise are not even a possibility

Well the propaganda war is in full swing.

No one plans a massacre, but they do plan policing actions with intent to NOT turn it into a massacre.

Yes the black warriors will be troublesome, which is why the high ground

is being taken control of sooern and no doubt not a window facing Red Rally

will not go unchecked, for snipers, and grenadiers etc.

There seems little choice to close this down this week.

How they do it remains a open question, but striving for a massacre is not

likely in the cards for anyone on the non-red side. The Roinin's and Thaksin

need a horror show to galvanize a here to for apathetic populace.

And regardless of size and prowess if military forces, they know

a ) ringers with murderous intent are mixed into the Red rank and file

b ) these people MUST try to create a horror show, or there can be no " popular uprising"

c ) the military do NOT want to provide this, but also get thje jobn done with minimal loses.

Read carefully.

Strip away the 'I fear...' wrapping and it is just another thinly disguised red threat.

This time from Mr Iceburg.

Yes democracy works by boycotting elections and bribing small parties to do the same as the dems did in April 2006 ?

Yes democracy works by shooting with live ammunition peaceful middle age rural people ?

Yes democracy works by taking off the air radio , TV stations and internet site that dont agree with you

http://blog.amnestyusa.org/asia/thailands-...transformation/

You really have a strange view of democracy . Suggest you travel more in democratic countries could be useful to you . :):D:D

And since the reds have only minority support , why not call for general elections instead of preparing for another crackdown ? So that everyone can be assured of Abhisit "majority" support

Laughable ....

Pretty spot on.

It's a national crisis - he needs a mandate - or the Thail people will never forgive him - he does not have a mandate and if he sends these guys in and it gets bloody it can spiral - why is he so frightened of an election? come to your own conclusion - it's obvious.

I've read. I've posted. I've explained. All I get back is "he wasn't elected".

And then half-truths:

- "the red government (which was elected) " - The PPP got 40% of the vote and needed coalition partners to form government.

- "the red government was banned" - the PTP (ex-PPP) were still in government after the PPP was disbanded.

- "MPs jumped ship" - MPs changing sides - it's legal, it's democratic, it happens in many countries that have coalition governments.
