Ssd Drives

Featured Replies

Anyone take the leap into using the Sandisk G3 SSD drives? These appear to be lots more efficient and faster than traditional hard drives, and lots more durable also. Seems like it is a match made in heaven for laptops with improved efficiency and speed, any drawbacks you can think of?

I can seriously see laptops losing their hard drives in exchange for SSD drives within 3 years and becoming mainstream now that cost have come down. If so this would be an excellent ime to invest in companies designing these drives.

Thank You Daren

Flash only netbook computers have been around for 2 years at least.

No hard drive and it runs with only flash solid state memory [ssd].

I have an ASUS original netbook and I have used it now for 2.5 years.

The only problem is that you are limited in memory as the density/dollar

of ssd is much less than a Winchester. But for simple tasks an no need

for great speed, it is perfect. And my netbook is half the size and half the

weight of a laptop.

I think SSD drives are the thing of the future, but at the moment price and capacity are keeping them out of the mainstream market while HD drives get bigger (Capacity) and cheaper every day..

However there are some concerns about the long term life of SSD drives as a quick Google will show.

Don't know why you're even thinking about SSD's, they're so slow and inefficient compared to 5 1/4 floppies. Just like P4's are faster than C2D's... Which use far less power than that silly new tech - i3! You're so welcome, Speedup.
