McDonalds Silom Center Bombed

They can't do that to KFC, too many people are learning how to eat chicken with a spoon and a fork there.

Just superb point!!! thats why it always felt wierd - the way they hold fork+spoon and knife.

:)

No knife..would be too dangerous for some of them...

Only spoon and fork allowed. Let them practice.

Anyone knows if Kaosan rd is OK to go to?

I plan on going there this evening by taxi from Bangkapi.

There are no protests in the area, was there 2 days ago, pretty much business as usual.

thanks

I just wonder if there are any road blocks on the way there

I just got back from a couple of nights in Bangkok...given all the hysterical press coverage about violence, I stayed in PinKlao and took a taxi to Khaosan on Thursday evening...the crowd was a bit thin...but no violence apart from a couple of farangs who couldn't hold their beer (according to the Nation, the redshirts have been using this as a new tactic to incite violence; they engage some farangs and buy them huge quantities of beer in the hope that they will cause mayhem...CRES is considering making the buying of drinks for anyone else a crime) ...

I was hoping to catch a glimpse of these mythical "terrorists" that the Nation says have horns growing out of their heads and breathe fire....but they must have been causing mayhem somewhere else...

Seriously, take sensible precautions, but it seems safe and quiet enough....

Truly amazing to keep reading of bombs being thrown and detonated and such minimal injuries. Same goes for the government soldiers "exchanging hundreds of rounds" with Khmer soldiers at the border areas and not one being hit on either side. Is it the reporting being done that is incorrect or are the police and soldiers and demonstrators that inept with firearms and explosives? Makes one wonder just what is transpiring in the Land of Smiles........

I believe the best shootouts are the ones whitout wounded or dead. It sets a good example, a true show of good human nature. Why should a soldier, policeman shoot to kill because of being order by a general sitting in the safe heaven of the officers club? Soldiers shooting to kill are brain washed to do so. Lets this be an example for mankind. The only ones upset are the ones wishing a carnage, or the ones brainwashed to see death by bullets a natural thing. Think about the A TEam, they were no inepts, but higly trained and skillfull unit, yet no deads on their shootouts.

Which all armies and police where like the Thai's and Khmer. Peace and Love. A big Ohmmmmmm for my disappointed friend's, this is no Afganistan or Irak battlefield... Thank God for that!

They've invaded a hospital, messed with TV signals at Thaicom, blocked highways, stopped public transit, frightened sick women and children, threatened arson, committed terrorism, kidnapped people, taunted police, closed shopping malls, canceled Songkran, ruined the tourism industry, poured blood on the streets, stolen bodies, barricaded public roads, cost thousands of people their jobs, broken numerous laws, intimidated politicians, harassed citizens, fought the army, and threatened to send Thailand into a downward spiral of civil war that could tear the nation apart for decades to come.........

But McDonald's. You've gone too far, you've supersized our anger now!

This must be a sign of the red shirt terrosts retreat. They will bomb and pilage everything as they leave, leaving no food supplies behind them.

So what are they doing looking for food in MacDonalds? It's the last place they will find it.

Yes I have to agree the only thing you will find at Macca's is poison. The reds were only acting in the Nations interest.

I guess the American tourists will be cancelling trips and others heading home after this, what are they going to do without thier burgers and fries? They would perish in a foriegn land. :)

Solution.....Drop a NUKE on BKK!!! and that will get rid of all the reds, yellows and rainbows and we'll have peace again.

Can any one spot a minor flaw in this plan?

yes, the IQ of the poster. What are you, an American? Nuke'em?! Did you vote for George Bush?

was the op a joke? there is nothing in the news about this.

Bombs Continue to Rock Silom

The glass walls and windows of Mc Donald's at Silom Center was damaged in what authorities believe to be either a bomb or gunfire attack while a ping pong bomb was thrown at Saladaeng intersection last night.

Just off Silom Road, the red-shirt protesters have erected more barricades in front of Chulalongkorn Hospital in fear of efforts by the government to disperse the anti-government red-shirt protesters.

Calling McDonalds food is a bit of a stretch. Anyway probably a terrorist attack by Burger King :)

reds will abandon their stronghold soon. Their numbers, moral, support and funds are all running low as is their ability to cause chaos and injury. As long as the authorities don't move in, they will lose. They can not longer march or take over other areas of BKK and if they try and are met with extreme force, there are few within Thailand or the international community left who will feel any sympathy. Even if some people don't get they have illegally seized and area of BKK and see it as a right to protest, they do and will not understand the need to create havoc and disobey police and scare the public by moving from this spot where they claim they have a peaceful protest.

The only other option is the reds do something extremely provoking, out of desperation, to try to get their people killed by forcing authorities to crack down. Anyone with common sense knows the goal all along has been to see many reds dead as they believe this will show Thailand and the world how evil this gov't is. We are even beyond this point now even if authorities moved in this morning unprovoked but it would still result in some incredibly bad PR. So, given the location and other factors, it makes no sense to have the gov't do anything but continue to secure the area to prevent them from setting up anywhere else.

At this point all the reds can do is get on stage and continue to preach to the already converted.

Mc Donald's have reassured customers that the shop will remain open and it will not affect the quality of service- you will still have to wait 10 minutes for a burger and 5 minutes after you have finished your burger to get your fries as normal.
