Celery 'makes Men More Attractive'

Featured Replies

We don't get a lot of celery here but I still seem to do all right. :)

CELERY has been labelled "vegetable Viagra" after research shows it increases the pheromone levels in men's sweat, making them more attractive to women.

Judy Gaman, Dr Walter Gaman and Dr Mark Anderson, authors of the new book Stay Young: Ten Proven Steps to Ultimate Health, said celery contains androstenone - a naturally occurring steroid - and upping your concentration of it should increase pheromone secretion.

They said the effects of eating it are immediate, but warned men not to go overboard, men's lifestyle website asylum.com reported today.

"We recommend that a guy work out, have a nice warm shower, chomp on a few sticks of celery, brush his teeth and then head out the door smelling good," said Dr Gaman.

Another reason why men should be keen to eat their vegetables is that celery also increases sex drive and ups the amount of ejaculatory fluids, making climax stronger.

Oh don't be silly...it's the smell of money that is 1000x more effective in making men attrative to women. I can proof it too...come to Pattaya :)

When I saw your headline, I thought it said "Clearly makes men more attractive." I opened the thread expecting it to be about liquor. :)

So, where do you buy celery in Thailand Scea? Some of us might want to put the theory to the test. :)

They sell it at Tops, and I think at several other grocery store chains.

It's not a regular item, Lotus and Big C carry it as a "speciality" vegetable, half a small bunch in a plastic bag for 70 baht.

I suspect it may be imported, never seen it in the local markets.

I'm a big fan of celery, either raw with cheese or cooked in soups.

Ah... that explains it....... :)

Typographical error...maybe salary?

Must have been a government grant funding this project.

I like using fresh celery, great for soups(clear broth), stews or when making gravy:

Funnily enough, before seeing this topic hadn't thought about celery in years, and after seeing this topic I have a sever craving for celery smothered with blue cheese. :)

Yeah, you fill the little groove up with cheese and chomp away. :)

As I kid, I remember eating it with Cheese Wiz down the middle. :)

Peanut butter. Celery and peanut butter. yum.

I personally like the story that because you have to chew so much you actually burn more calories chewing than you do from the vegetable. (don't know if its true or not, I just like the idea :))

Ahoy, fellow vegetable fans!

Here in Pattaya, you can find the Thai version of celery (usually called: Chinese celery) nearly everywhere... it's that popular. All the local markets have it, all the time. It's much thinner than the celery we grew up with in the states; I think it tastes slightly milder but ok/good. One small benefit of eating Thai celery: not stringy, like the big celery gets sometimes (use the peeler to take off the outer layers when this happens). The big, farang celery can be found at Friendship Supermarket on Pattaya Tai, Makro, Foodmart Jomtien (sometimes), and others, from time to time. Great with roast & stuffed chicken; chicken soup; shmeared with cream cheese or bleu cheese; along with a spicy Bloody Mary or some hot Buffalo wings... aroy, aroy!

:)

PS- And letz not forget: Ants on a Log (my children loved this!): Celery shmeared with chunky peanut butter, dotted with raisins... whoa!

Who of you is a Chef???

:)

Ok, I'm not a chef, but maybe I can shed some light on the subject here. I think it's just semantics: we're talking CELERY & the chef's photo (and reference) was of:

CELERIAC(Apium graveolens rapaceum) is also known as celery root, turnip-rooted celery or knob celery. It is a kind of celery, grown as a root vegetable for its large and bulbous hypocotyl rather than for its stem and leaves. The swollen hypocotyl is typically used when it is about 10–12 cm in diameter; about the size of a large potato. Unlike other root vegetables, which store a large amount of starch, celery root is only about 5-6% starch by weight.

Celeriac may be used raw or cooked. It has a tough, furrowed, outer surface which is usually sliced off before use because it is too rough to peel. Celeriac has a celery flavour, and is often used as a flavouring in soups and stews; it can also be used on its own, usually mashed, or used in casseroles, gratins and baked dishes.

The hollow stalk of the upper plant is sometimes cut into drinking straw lengths, rinsed, and used in the serving of tomato-based drinks such as the Bloody Mary cocktail. The tomato juice is lightly flavoured with celery as it passes through the stalk.

Celeriac is not as widely used as some other root vegetables, perhaps because it is harder to prepare and clean.

PS- What's this about The Stalk Market?? OIC... celery humor!

:D

Perhaps because it looks like a turd.

Makro carries celery from the Royal Project - but it seems not always in stock.
