In order to get the protest dispersed it seems like you would either need to arrest most of them or maim them. Otherwise they'll just pop back up and cause more trouble. My vote is for arresting them, but the police haven't shown the ability to do that yet.

agreed, they should set up the national stadium as a holding place. The leaders either neutralized or taken to unknown places for a couple of days.

So this is instead of democracy? sound to me like it is the south america under right wing generals you wish to have here.

Thaksin getting more press now and call for talks. At last, somebody who can end this crisis!

All this sob wants to do is t play for time- if the government would fall for this the reds would pretend to go along and than there would come a thousand reasons again why they can not stop .... the sky too blue or not blue enough ... Abhisit has to run naked up and down Silom ... Thaksin should shut up and be happy that he is not here ........ what I really wish him would upset the monitors here

It sounds to me as if you have not woken up to the threats from the extreme reds and Thaksin. This what you mentioned is his plan B and it wont work either. He will meet his judges for sure, here and in The Hague.

don't be a loser and get involved for other peoples greed or even your own. Keep on sleeping when you can't come up with a good dream.

The security forces making it all the way to the Indra Hotel virtually puts them at the center of the Reds base throughout these past several weeks. It's close to over for the Reds and Thaksin, which is why Thaksin's squirming and squealing for the government to surrender! Even with the Reds routed as is happening it still won't be over however because Thaksin doesn't know how or when to quit.

Thaksin started this crisis with his corrupt and "murderous" regime (Sorry for using Red rhetoric) After this, he must have a death wish if he wants to come back to Thailand.

A deal seems pretty inevitable though. I think it'd be great to see free elections again where Thaksin and Abhisit can lead their respective parties. If Abhisit wins then that's totally fine with me.

Troops clash with protesters at Rajprarop

Troops clashed with protesters at the Rajprarop security checkpoint Friday afternoon.

Protesters tried to ambush troops at the Rajprarop barricade at 2:15 pm, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The sounds of gunfire prompted reporters and photographers to run for cover around building corners.

Would any of the resident red apologists like to comment on the "red ambush" and "exchange of gunfire"? According to the three stooges the reds are conducting a peaceful rally. How can there be an exchange of gunfire if only the army has guns?????????

Foreign Journalist Shot In Thailand Trouble

SkyNews - 39 mins ago

A foreign journalist has been shot during protests between troops and anti-government protesters in Thailand, according to Reuters News Agency.

The journalist, who works with the France 24 television channel was shot in the leg and has been taken to hospital.

I hope the injury is not too bad. But this calls for a few precisions. Where was the journalist when he got shot? Was he behind the soldiers, behind red lines or somehow caught in the middle?

By the way, I wish someone told the soldiers to stop shooting live bullets into the air. The bullet has to go down sometime, and it still has more than enough energy to kill someone. Also psychologically it achieves noting at all in this situation: protesters will only panic and fire back with their own weapons - thinking they're being fired at.

Thaksin could've ended this crisis by stepping forward a few weeks ago. Now? He's got nothing.

well... there is his peace plan (such as it is):

Thaksin Proposes 4-point Peace Plan

UPDATE : 14 May 2010

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra has proposed a 4-point peace plan.

He's calling for the lifting of the State of Emergency, for soldiers to return to their barracks, allow for peace talks to take place with the protesters and for reconciliation to occur between all parties involved in the current political conflict.

CAN REMEMBER THAT HE,THAKSIN DID THE PINOCHET TRICKS BACK IN THE SOUTH!!!!

Ah another one so bright that not know about che guevara and how many he butcher. nice pic, shame you know nothing at all about this man.

Thaksin will be soon back in driving seat and will get credit now for resolving this. Abhisit failied and Suthep is criminal and banned already so not going to be better after this. PS they shoot another taxi driver and CNN live reporters on scene.... well, I know you not interest in this so go google if you want to educate your self.

Army might have good road block, but will not kill many their brother and sister. Careful who call them to shoot because don't know which way they will shoot if have to kill!

OH and if you read CNN, they report split in ranks with some police shooting at army this pm. And they see it, not like you only imagine!!

Probably their education was upcountry, because these people still believe that the things they burn and create smoke, will become clouds and after gives rain(this is what their bigg bosses taught them)

firetruck.jpg

Anti-government demonstrators vandalize a fire truck Friday, May 14, 2010, near Lumpini Park in downtown Bangkok, Thailand. The Thai government continues to move against the 'Red Shirt' demonstrators who have occupied sections of Bangkok for more than two months shutting down hotels and key sections of the tourism industry.

They're vandalising it peacefully of course. :)

What do they gain from vandalising fire trucks? Didn't Jatuporn say he cannot guarantee the surrounding buildings including the BTS would be safe? Might fire trucks be needed later today?

What surprises me is that people are still calling these guys "demonstrators" or "protesters". They're in uniform (redshirts), they carry weapons and they attack people and property. They are an army who have invaded and occupied Bangkok.

I thought according to the reds here, this was a peaceful demonstration and they had no weapons??

Those reds here never seem to get tired to argue against the obvious eve when there are pictures ... oh no these are made by the government .... wonder if they really think they can convince anyone here?

Why don't you red supporters do the right thing and go down to join your friends??

Just a question: what is happening outside Bangkok downtown, particularly in the Provinces? Can somebody give us a picture of the situation; Chiang Maii, Udon Thani, Korat, Khong Kaen....? Is it quiet?

The last thing you want to be doing in a gun battle is riding a motorbike, unless of course you plan on killing yourself. :)

Yes. They are after all incredibly minor charges, and politically motivated at that. Thaksin may agree to not actually run himself however.

I'm still at the office on Ratchadapisek and I can't see anything looking down on the street besides extremely congested traffic.
