Dear XXXXX,

Last year I was given a digital camcorder by a businessman in a Bangkok bar.

I had gone to Bangkok with £200 in my pocket to find a job and had been teaching English at the time, but my desire for adventure combined with my eagerness to be accepted by the expat community and get a 'proper' job, resulted in a twelve month adventure which took me all over Asia and which I recorded as a video diary/FOTW documentary along the way, my intention being to make a home movie that was nothing like the boring, wobbly tripe anybody had seen before.

Those who have seen it have convinced me it would make very good TV if it was edited, and I have 14 x 1 hr Sony DV cassettes featuring footage of:

* My time as a teacher in Bangkok and the boredom I endured home alone in the evenings.

* My move to the royal resort of Hua Hin (3hrs south BKK) with a high class escort girl I'd known for just two days. (We lived together while I worked in a European restaurant.)

* Her departure from me, my departure from the job and the ensuing move to Phuket.

* A life of unemployment in Phuket, my friendship with a bargirl who helped me back on my feet and how I only just missed the Tsunami.

* My stay with a Thai family for three days on the Island of Ko Samui.

* My return to Bangkok to start work with the worlds largest traveling funfair, a company which Channel 4 have wanted to make a documentary on for six years but as yet have not been granted permission by the owners, but I have my own insider video diary covering the three months duration the huge site was there. (Nov 04 - Feb 05)

* My life afterwards, visiting and staying with expat friends I had made as a result of my prolific and open hearted postings on an expat website forum, including a Welshman with a dairy farm in northern Thailand and an Englishman with a penchant for driving.

* A three week visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I stayed with a 24yr old man from Essex who runs a backpacker bar, my ensuing difficult stint as a DJ, talking head shots with customers and a romance with a Danish girl who lived in 'backpackerville'.

* My final weeks in Bangkok, staying in a posh townhouse with a family, going shopping for salmon, my leaving party and the horrible flight back to London via Kuwait.

I also have plenty of 'padding' footage of motorbike/bus/plane/ferry journeys that can be put to music... Gaffer taping the camera to the front fork of a motobike was one of the ways I would often risk myself and the camera to get the kind of shot I wanted... I have even taken it into the shower and with me on funfair rides to get the shots most camcorder owners would never think of, let alone attempt.

Many parts I dislike and find painful to watch but those who have viewed it have said they are the best bits as they give the audience a real, raw character they can identify with and that somebody else should edit the footage who is non biased... The best part is that the filming is already done so it would cost very little to produce.

I hope you like the idea and that we can do something with it, I have compiled an online gallery of 24 stills from the footage to give you a rough idea of the imagery.

I have always been very creative and hard working and am still looking for a job which I will enjoy that utilizes my creative skills and ideas.

Please let me know if you would like further information.

Kind regards,

The Gentleman Scamp

It seems I left Bangkok a little early. :o

Actually in Taiwan, there was a Forienger talk/game show that did pretty well.

They would have interviews with the foriengers, and have language competitions to see who had the best Chinese skills etc. Truthfully, the show was watched by the Taiwanese becuase they were impressed at the foriengers language skills, and found it interesting/ironic that foriengers would want to come and live on their little rock of an island. I saw the show a few times, and it was done well.... I liked it.

But I am sure they would have weed out a lot of foriengers in the Farang show...

I can see it now...

Question : "What brings you to Thailand..."

Response: "Cheep *********** "

No I don't think that would work out to well.

Why dont you do a thai-farang version of jerry springer...judging by the amount of winging, moaning, ripoff, scam, heartbreak, visa debarkle etc.. stories on this forum, you'd probably have enough guests to last you many ,many seasons. Stickman could be the host.

Same guests - just lots of re-appearances perhaps :o
