My Thai wife and I are going to Europe on 19th June. She has a long term schengen visa. While in Europe we wish to visit UK. She has completed an online application for a tourist visa, however, first online appointment date is to close to our departure from Bangkok. Are there other ways to schedule appointments. Can you just show up? We have called the VFS helpdesk, but can't get to talk to a real person.

Hi

If you are talking about the Visa application center VAC... Regent House, yes it is possible just to turn up collect a number ticket and wait. Also make sure you have read the website and have all the relevant paperwork plus anything else you can think of.

After interview and depositing said paperwork they promise to supply visa in 10 days if sucessful

Good luck

TBWG :) .

Shame they don't promise 10 days for the settlement visa! :-(

Incidentally, is it possible just to turn up as described above for a settlement visa if the online interview is too far ahead?

Not quite, they say that they aim to process non settlement applications within 15 working days (Guide to Processing Times). However, due to the closures of both the embassy and the VAC during the disturbances they are busy clearing the backlog, so it may very well take longer at present.

Incidentally, is it possible just to turn up as described above for a settlement visa if the online interview is too far ahead?

How to apply says

Step 3 - Complete your visa application form

You can complete your visa application form in one of the following 2 ways, although settlement and Tier 4 applications and their dependants should complete an online application.

Should complete, not must. However, having completed the online form you can then print it out and take it to the VAC without making an appointment first.
