Visa Exempt To Non Imm O Marriage

Featured Replies

I arrived on a 30 day visa exempt stamp. Can this be converted in Thailand to a year Non Imm O marriage visa or do I have to leave country? I am a 50 yo UK citizen married to a Thai for several years but until now never needed to stay here more than 90 days a trip due to work.

When I extended the other day I was only given 60 days extension with marriage docs in hand. How do I change to Non Imm O and stay a year?

With more than 21 day remaining on you permitted to stay stamp (they may allow less now) you convert using normal extension of stay paperwork, including financial proof for 2,000 baht and then you will be able to extend for one year from that 90 day stamp.

Great, thanks for info.

You must convert to an non-immigrant visa first to apply for one year extension of stay.

It sounds like he's already done, and is currently on a 60 day extension to visit his wife. Shouldn't he be able to go straight to a yearly extension from there?

He has not obtained a non immigrant visa entry so must get that before he can obtain a one year extension of stay. The 60 day extension can be obtained from any entry - but not the one year. And not all offices will do the conversion to non immigrant visa entry so it could mean a trip to Bangkok for some. After obtaining that the one year extension can then be made. Proof of qualifications are required at both times.

You are correct in saying I don't have a non imm visa. Just a 30 day visa exempt extended 60 days based on marriage.

1. The extension to one year is an extension and not a non immigrant visa or the same thing? I'm in Bangkok to do this. Can it all be at same time and what is needed?

2. The financial proof is 400kTHB in Thai bank before applying beyond 90 days for TWO months?

Thanks for your very helpful responses.

Two months would be fine for first application for extension of stay. If the time period is met they may do both processes in one go but there is a chance you would be told to return in 60 days to obtain the actual extension of stay for one year.

First you obtain non immigrant visa entry stamp - at immigration would require proof of meeting extension requirements and 2,000 baht. Or you obtain a non immigrant O visa from a Consulate and enter on that.

Final step is actual one year extension of stay for 1,900 baht.
