Skills institute gives drivers lessons on fuel saving

UBON RATCHATHANI: -- In a sign of the times, a north-eastern government skills training institute is offering motorists courses on fuel saving to help them cope with soaring petrol prices.

The launch of the course at the Institute of Labour Skills Development in Ubon Ratchathani comes at a time when the government is conducting heavy campaigns to encourage the public to conserve as much energy as possible.

Mrs. Juthamas Boonart, the institute’s director, told reporters yesterday that the new vehicle maintenance course would focus on measures motorists could take to help cut down on fuel use, for instance by refraining from using unnecessary equipment and from switching the air-conditioning system on and off at the right moments.

By using their vehicles correctly, she said, motorists not only saved fuel but also helped prolong the life of their car.
