Thai Red Shirt Leader To Run In Bangkok Poll

simple answer, NPP know they will not win - so they don't run for election. Same as Mark did 2006.

And if the Democrats candidate win - 100% for sure that he will join NPP after the dissolution. Nothing mysterious here. :whistling:

The Democrat MPs who were not executives at the time of any alleged offences and thus not banned, will form a new party

as TRT became PPP and then PPT.There's no need to join NPP.

^repaired broken quote.

They will split, falling apart into different factions. Bangkok MPs will most likely join the NPP. Under Chuan Leekpai, as the elder leader, the 'New Democrats' will become a strong regional party of the South.

ํYou've been saying this for months. You could be right. I think not, but I am not the all-knowing. We'll have to wait and see.

Kokaew opened a bank account for the election campaign. But why at the Bangkok Bank? That was the bank that was boycotted and attacked by the reds wasn't it???

I wondered about this myself. Maybe required by EC ? More likely a case of 'do as I say, don't do as I do'

It's yet another example of irony and hypocrisy surrounding the UDD, Thaksin and Pheu Thai.

The UDD cult decried "We just want democracy", yet instruct their followers to only vote for Pheu Thai. They are only using this "fight for democracy" to try to get back into power through votes from brainwashed followers.

It's not the same as in 2006.

In 2006 Thaksin went to the polls because he had recently broken the law and knew that a win at the ballot box would give him the power to snuff out all charges and evade justice. The Democrats scuppered his plan.

Bringing back former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to Thailand and reinstatement of the 2007 Constitution would be two main key policies for next election campaign of Puea Thai Party, MPs chairman Chalerm Yubamrung said on Saturday.

Mr Chalerm said the opposition camp will also inform voters that it would move ahead with the populist policy initiated by the now defunct Thai Rak Thai Party, such as 30 baht for curing all diseases and village fund.

The veteran politician said his party will also come up with a law to grant amnesty to yellow and red-shirt protesters facing criminal and political charges after the September 19, 2006 military coup.

He was confident that Puea Thai party’s MP candidate, Korkaew Pikulthong, would win the July 25 by election in Bangkok’s constituency 6.

Mr Korkaew, being detained in prison on charge of terrorism, is a co-leader of the pro-Thaksin United front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

Mr Chalerm also believed that the Bhumjaithai Party, the main coalition partner of the Democrat-led government, would win no more than 18 MP seats in the North and Northeast in the next election.

From the paper we arn't allowed to mention or link to

So there we have it the full election manifesto of PTP.

Wonder if they chose Korkaew because if the PTP lose heavily they will have an excuse by saying it was because the Govt kept him locked up and wouldn't let him campaign.

Farther to the above

A lawyer of the People's Alliance for Democracy(PAD) has asked the Election Commission to check if Korkaew Pikulthong, a United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship leader, is qualified to run in the July 25 by-election in Bangkok's constituency 6 as the Puea Thai candidate.

Nitithorn Lamlua made the request in a letter submitted to EC chairman Apichart Sukhagghanont, the ex officio political party registrar, on Monday.

The lawyer said that his examination of Puea Thai Party regulations Nos 9, 10 and 13 indicated Mr Korkaew might have lost his party membership because he has been detained under a court warrant after being charged with terrorism.

Mr Korkaew's Puea Thai membership might well have ended the day he was put in detention.

Mr Korkaew also might not have been a Puea Thai member for the minimum 90 days required by Article 101 of the constitution, the PAD lawyer said.

Manas Pasatrat, chairman of the constituency 6 election committee, said election officials awee checking the qualifications of all six candidates running in the poll and expected to announce on July 9 if they were qualified or not.

As for Mr Korkaew's qualifications, Mr Manas said it was a matter for the EC's political party registrar and the Puea Thai Party's registrar to decide.

I've just read that article, titled "PT: “Bring Thaksin back” is a key policy" published on 3 July 2010.

So Peua Thai now openly state that bringing Thaksin back is one of their main goals.

Since Peua Thai supported the protests, this means that the protests were all about Thaksin all along, not about democracy nor class divisions. They sure fooled a lot of people.

Where are all those idiot UDD cheerleaders on Thai Visa now, many who had said the protests had nothing to do with Thaksin?

Wasnt the 30 baht scheme recently superceded by free health by the present Govt?

The the 'village fund' was that where the poo yai bahn were given money to pay those who voted for the correct party?
