Result of students' food test to be known next week

BANGKOK:-- The result of a test of alleged poisonous food, causing hundreds of students in a Bangkok school to suffer a severe diarrhea and nausea with vomitting yesterday, will be known next week, according to a senior city health official.

"Officials have taken samples of the food and are testing them in a lab. I expect that the result can be announced by next week", a senior epidemiologist of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s Disease Control Division, Ladda Phokawatana, told TNA on Friday.

About 800 primary-level students of Lamsalee School in Rhamkhamhaeng area here were rushed to the hospital yesterday after they suffered a severe diarrhea and nausea with vomitting after taking the food provided by the school at lunch.

Doctors later announced that all the students were safe and were discharged from the hospital.

Most of the students returned to school today, while about 80 of them were still absent.

The school's teachers visited the absent students at their homes today.

It is likely that the students took contaminated food at lunch.

Hope the Health Ministry also get involved in the findings, instead of leaving the investigation to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s Disease Control Division. Glad to know that majority of the students are fine.
