ABUJA, NIGERIA (BNO NEWS) -- An alleged attack by the Islamist group Boko Haram on Monday destroyed a police station in the northern region of Nigeria, injuring three people, local media reported.

On Monday, at around 9.30 p.m. local time, the group forced entry into a police station located in the city of Maiduguri. During the attack, a gunmen shot and injured a policeman and soon after, an explosion inside blasted the station, injuring another policeman and a woman.

The explosion was reportedly caused by a Molotov cocktail.

In July 2009, the Boko Haram group and the Nigerian police clashed violently after a similar attack on a police station sparked the deadly clashes that resulted in the deaths of over 700 people.
