MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- A recorded telephone conversation between an alleged Mexican drug lord and a lawmaker who is being accused of having ties with a drug cartel, was unveiled by Mexican radio on Thursday.

The conversation - reportedly dating from July 12, 2009 - is part of a federal investigation against Julio Cesar Godoy Toscano, member of the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, who is suspected of being linked with Mexican drug cartel "La Familia Michoacana."

Godoy Toscano is half brother of the Michoacan state governor Leonel Godoy, of the PRD.

During the conversation, which was broadcast on W Radio, Servando Gomez Martinez, "La Tuta," the alleged leader of the drug cartel based in Michoacan state, is heard referring to Godoy as "friend" and "son." Godoy Toscano, on friendly and respectful terms as well, calls Gomez Martinez "uncle."

Mutual favors and recommendations are shared between the two throughout the conversation. "Tell your cousin its the last time," la Tuta warns the legislator, who later asks the alleged drug dealer if he can talk to a reporter from the Quadratin news agency.

"He's bothering with us too much. Let's see if you can fix that for us, uncle, because we know he works for you, but he won't listen to us." "Don't worry about it," Gomez Martinez answers. "I'll talk to that bastard and fix everything."

Finally, Gomez Martinez says he cannot commit to God because he does "terrible" work. "It's garbage," he says. "The situation is hot," Godoy Toscano concludes. "You have to be really careful out there."

According to reports, the conversation was obtained by intelligence officials working for Mexico's Secretariat of Public Security, which led to the accusations.

A series of conversations between the two was known in which they discuss Godoy's political campaign and project in the state of Michoacan, and la Tuta asks the Mexican legislator to ask the governor to intercede at the federal level so the police "will stop f---ing with us."

The lawmaker, who won his seat and was at large after an arrest warrant was issued against him, was sworn in after entering the House of Representatives evading the police. His position as a deputy gives him immunity, but the federal Attorney General's Office is seeking for his impeachment.
