SHANGHAI, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- Two people were rescued on Saturday and more than a dozen remain missing after a fishing boat capsized during bad weather conditions in eastern China, state media reported.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the accident happened around 1.10 a.m. local time when the Zheijang-registered fishing boat sank during stormy seas at the mouth of the Yangtze River.

Two of the 18 people on board were able to jump into the sea before the ship sank, and were later rescued by a ship sent by the East China Sea Salvage Bureau. The 16 others remain missing.

A search-and-rescue operation is underway.
