Voipstunt Phone Changes

Originally started as a straight paid VOIP service needing headphones to call a fixed line or mobile from your PC. In the past year they introduced an instant callback phone-to-phone service (at least within the UK) with normal phone quality rather than the dodgy headset service. Rates were higher but still pretty cheap. Certainly well-undercutting UK fixed line providers. Currently €0.05 connection and no per-minute charge.

However they now seem to have scrapped the original headset VOIP service. So, if in Thailand with my PC, how would I make international phone calls with the headset and broadband connection (they recommend at least 100 kbps)? Thanks.

P.S. True Move mobiles were only Baht 1 to the UK in December 2009 (B1.5 to Thai mobiles), so VOIP is only an emergency backup in case of network failure.

It depends where you'll be staying in Thailand.

In Bangkok it should be no probelm if you get a "reliable" service. (good luck on that!)

I was living in Uthai Thani (350Km northwest of BKK) and despite being only one Km from a phone tower the service was abysmal.

The connection speed was so slow that Voip was not possible.

Keyboard chat was possible in off-peak periods.

On weekends it was often difficult to even logon to a home page.

No amount of complaining brought improvement.

I tried changing to different companies but that didn't work either.

The costs however were astronomical considering that I spent most of my time just

waiting to see a web page appear on my screen.

Watching a short video was out of the question.

Most frustrating to say the least.

We can only hope that things will change ..

To answer my own question on VOIPStunt ... for phone-to-phone I was using their website, while for PC-to-Phone I needed their software download. They don't make it clear, or unify the systems into one. Anyhow, a good company for cheap calls!
