HAVANA (BNO NEWS) -- A passenger plane carrying nearly 70 people crashed in central Cuba on late Thursday afternoon, officials said, killing all those on board.

Aero Caribbean flight 883 was traveling from Antonio Maceo Airport in Santiago de Cuba, in eastern Cuba, to José Martí International Airport in Havana when it went down near the town of Guasimal in Sancti Spiritus Province at approximately 5.42 p.m. local time.

The ATR 72 twin-turboprop aircraft was carrying 61 passengers and seven crew members when it went down near Guasimal, killing everyone on board.

Many of the passengers on board were tourists, according to the passenger list which identified 40 Cubans, two Germans, nine Argentinians, one Spaniard, one French, three Dutch, one Italian, one Japanese, seven Mexicans, one Venezuelan and two from Austria.

The names of the tourists, according to the passenger list, were: Renata Enockl (German), Harald Niekaper Lars (German), Maria Pastores (Argentinian), Alberto Croce (Argentinian), Stella Croce (Argentinian), Carlos Sánchez Marcelo (Argentinian), Miriam Galucci De Sanchez (Argentinian), Aruro González (Argentinian), Silvia Ferrari (Argentinian), Norma Peláez (Argentinian), Virginio Viarengo (Argentinian), Jacqueline Cunningham (Austria), Barbara Crossin (Austria), Manuel González Asencio (Spain), William Mangae Kambi (France), Hans van Schuppen (Dutch), Dirk van Dam (Dutch), Walter van der Berg (Dutch), Rafaelle Pugliese (Italian), Yoko Umehara (Japanese), Lorenzo Mendoza Cervantes (Mexican), Daniel González Esquivel (Mexican), Luis Pérez (Mexican), Jesus Rangel Medina (Mexican), Cynthia Pérez Garcia (Mexican), Mario Pérez Rulgines (Mexican), Claudia García Castillo (Mexican), and Candida Elchaer (Venezuelan).
