SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (BNO NEWS) -- Three South Korean soldiers were killed on Wednesday during training operations in the northern region of the country, military officials said.

A small boat was conducting a river-crossing drill in the Namhan River near yeoju, about 105 kilometers (65 miles) southeast of Seoul, with eight soldiers on board, but at around 3:50 p.m. local time, the boat capsized.

All eight soldiers were rescued and received medical treatment, but the three later died at a local hospital. Another soldier was unconscious, Yonhap news agency reported, adding that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was being administered.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
