The Mall Bangkapi Cheaper Than Other Malls?

I noticed that the prices in the Mall Bangkapi are much more "reasonable" than prices in Emporium, Siam Paragon, Central, and even other The Mall chains, is it because few farangs walk there? The locals surely wouldn't be paying high prices. I am not talking about the department store, I am referring to the plaza side of the Mall. I recently went there and a farang there is a rare sight indeed.

Wait a second... are you saying that the easy-to-access malls in high-rent central Bangkok where most foreigners do their shopping charge higher prices than the low-rent, out-of-the-way suburban malls that are visited mostly by local Thais?

I'm not sure I believe you.

The trend setting (high end) malls are in central area of Bangkok. As you move out the third party shops will not be as exclusive (or expensive) as those there. Same in most cities/countries. I find Fashion Island (a bit further out and very American style) a real pleasure as they keep it clean enough to eat off the floors.

Well, for example. The services or business services at the Mall Bangkapi are relatively inexpensive compared to MBK where they hike the prices up for westerns. The staffs at the Mall Bangkapi are more friendly and helpful in many areas. They do get a fair amount of foreign customers in their everyday. Overall, the franchise stores there are relatively the same as all the other malls.

When you are looking for something and can't find it at the Mall Bangkapi, you can always go down to Information where the young lady whose English is good or so so will help you find what you are looking for, or will make the attempt to contact someone who can help. Central Ladproa same.

Central Latphao is the original mall in Bangkok and has always been maintained as a relatively high level mall in befitting the status of Central as the original department store in Bangkok. Always been a better dressed clientele there than The Mall but since the opening of in town malls it has lost much of its earlier status.

Have not compared the prices at the Mall Bangkapi with other shopping centers. I do however know for a fact that the tattoo parlors beside the Mall Bangkapi at the Tawana Market is a lot cheaper than most other places.

Defenitly cheaper there for photo developing and the area has a very large student population where as the other areas are more tourist type and higher overheads.

I guess I assumed the OP was saying that he was seeing lower retail prices at the Mall at Bang Kapi vs. Paragon, Emporium, Central, and other Mall locations. I confess I don't know what "the Plaza Side" is? I think anyone would expect services, and food courts, to be less expensive in the suburbs than in the city. (Services = tattoos, photo finishing, etc.). {I spend a lot of time in Ram2 and service prices are ~ 50% of those in town, and restaurants are ~ 60%.} But its not clear if the transportation costs are off-set by savings? With national retailers, and price matching, I don't see a huge difference in big ticket items. Obviously the big box retailers have weekly promotions but those don't vary by location.

I've never been to the Mall at Bang Kapi, I'm either in town or at Seacon/Paradise Park/Central Bang Na.

I'd still like to hear some examples from the OP so we can understand what he really means.

Hi folks,

Not sure about the pricing, however when I was in The Mall Bangkapi yesterday, I did notice it had more foot traffic than the other malls i,e (Lad Prao, Fashion Island, and yes even Siam Paragon). And this was not due to the IMFA that they are holding up to the 5th (MUay Thai amateur championsips). I stopped in yesterday for the 1st time, it's a huge facility.

Side note: The Muay Thai bouts were on the very top floor near the theatre, and it was well worth the trip. Plenty of seating as they really did not have any posters, brochures around regarding the even. About 100 countries representing...

PARAGON and EMPORIUM are indeed more expensive, as they are considered a "Premium"-Mall, but all the other THE MALL-outlets should be on par.

Really Love THE MALL Bangkapi, easily could spend a full day there (it's big enough to do so anyway, or watch a movie or swim in the giant water-Park on the Top-Floor), as this is the REAL BANGKOK and REAL PEOPLE. not just Hi-So crowds and rich tourists from Middle-East or OZ who want to part with their cash as quickly as possible.

May I know where is this mall ?

Can any subway or skytrain reach it ?

No.

Get the canal boat from Pratunam to the Mall Bangkapi, takes about 40 minutes and costs 22 baht.

Seen one mall seen them all, of more interest is the market next door called Tawana Square.
