English-Thai Translations Of Foods

Often i find i'd like to know what a food is called in english so i can ask my wife if we can get it here in chiang mai, and at other times she tells me the name of foods in thai that i don't know in english. I did make an effort to find help on the net and came across clay's kitchen:

It's a pretty good effort by someone and does help me out quite a lot. But still it has gaps. This thread is to:

see if anyone can add to this resource

offer my finding to others who may find it useful

It might also serve as a location for posters to add translations of foods that they personally know, ie, both the english and thai words for foods.

By food, i mean anything we can put in our mouths!

I have my girlfriend type in Thai, with a Thai keyboard, and google search and often there is a translate button. I usually look for wikipedia because I like it and know the translation will be good.

That along with femi fan's link should allow a person to do there home work and go out to dinner and amaze there friends.

I never knew there was so many foods.

The bigger Thai-English dictionaries have sections in the back devoted to food and Thai dishes. One of the joys of learning how to read and write the Thai language is to read the same stories that Thai children do in their school studies. Those stories often mention food and I've made a point of looking up a food or ingredient on wikipedia if it's mentioned in one of my Thai language homework assignments. I also love to cook and have enlarged our menu because of the new ingredients.
