will be driving to the south during the new year holiday period. any advices?

heard of the floods and heavy rain fall. anyone here staying in the south have an idea on the situation here. will be driving thru the highway from bangkok to hadyai. i will have to pass many provinces which are prone to land slide and flooding, like chumphon, nakorn sri thammarat, surat thani & pathalung, before reaching hadyai.

been watching the news on channel 3 these few days and i'm getting really frustrated with the situation. if it is not safe to drive there, i may have to book a flight there before it gets too late. we need to carry a lot of stuff down south, so getting on a plane or train is kinda the last resort.

any advices? anyone there living in the south has got any idea if the phetkasem highway is flooded or affected by the storm? any news forecast on the new year holiday forecast?

I would be worried about the amount of traffic. I would check the public holiday dates and leave a couple of days before They start or go after New Year 2nd or 3rd.The traffic can often be horrendous.

It is the other drivers you should be worried about, when I drove down that way from BKK last year around March time, there was 6 serious accidents that must have claimed lives.

Just avoid public holiday rush days and it should be fine. I once made mistake of driving on day before work after New Year and road back into Bangkok was fubar near Petchaburi where all southern traffic is funneled through just one main road.
