I know everytime TAT posts something we all seem to be in some agreement that TAT most be publishing fake figures. I can at least put down 2 things based what I know since I work in the hotel industry, and during frequent chats with other GM, Managers, TAT figures dont match real industry trends and from other source which 1 website seems to have the most accurate figures which matches what other people have been saying. I can also put down from an event I attended that had other major hotel industry players which basically all saying thailand is moving down in terms of tourism, noteable for at least 2 things

1. Euro, Pound, Dollar currency rates going down are having an effect on purchasing power for customers and unemployment prospects for western countries are not good ( food, drinks, tours are almost same price as western country )

2. Continued ongoing instability for the last 3 years minimum from airport closure, riots etc makes thailand's not the destination you want for your holiday

From the other source, this company seems to be heavily involved in tourism globally from at least what I read, and gather from there website a company called STR Global, here what STR Global had in terms of average hotel occupancy for Bangkok at least from April 2010 - October 2010

Bangkok Hotel Average Occupancy

April 2010 - 43.3%

May 2010 - 26.2%

June 2010 - 34.9%

July 2010 - 51.8%

August 2010 - 51.4%

September 2010 - 53.7%

October 2010 - 54.4%

keep in mind I'm waiting to read november 2010 results, you guys might want to check out these 2 websites if your more curious

www.hotelnewsresource.com

www.htrends.com

continued google search for STR Global Posts Asia Pacific Performance Results for ( put in month and year ) example march 2010

hope this helps. If you guys further better information that TAT let me know. Also Travel Daily Asia has some good information sometimes

I have been travelling around Asia for about 6 weeks now and have found some great offers(granted some may be by mistake) here in Thailand as well as in India and Singapore. Believe me if you search around there are some great deals to be had. It's 5 star on one shoestring for me...and I'm loving it :D

Well here are the deals(granted some are obviously mistake rates that were corrected but still honoured)However as we approach peak season most are nolonger available so these wo'nt now be of any use to you. However what I would say is that if you look at as many websites as possible using the various tools on the web such a flight forums and comparison websites you would be amazed at how often good deals or even mistake rates come up..you have to be quick to get in sometimes but the deals are there to be had...3 years of great deals and counting for me so far...I keep thinking it will end,but touch wood the deals still keep coming..just two weeks ago I managed to snag my mates who will be visiting me on the island in February the 5 star Samui deal...it was gone within 24 hours but the reservation has not been cancelled as yet.

Any of the newly opened Bangkok hotels usually offer great rates as well such as the Novotel fenix Silom and Sheraton four points. The Renaissance ,Rachaprasong(sp?) had a good deal going also the last time I looked at the Marriott website.

I had more than a few 38GBP stays(Airasia that time) with ABF at the Marriott Sukhumvit one bed Apartments shortly after opening earlier this year.

Wow...some great deals for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. Currently enjoying the hospitality at the Sheraton Pattaya in the Pavillion room with pool ocean view.

Would it be possible to have a seperate hotel deal forum?.I would be happy to post any future finds and it might also encourage others to share deals for the benefit of all.

Then again s*ds law says that the minute you do that my luck will run out...so maybe not such a good idea  ??

Actually that's a really good idea.

What are your tactics? Book last minute? Use an aggregator or price comparison site?

I'm really interested to know how you did it...those deals look better than the norm...But then again, maybe you're just lucky :D

Thaivisa.com now has a link to agoda.com. I hope you can get the same deals there. Can't miss the banner, right at the top! :)

I know you have to "plug" an advertiser...but I've used Agoda before I don't like the way they don't give you the all-in price.

Maybe we should just start a thread within a thread using the travel forum?

Razz...how do I do it?....a fair amount of luck that is for sure...if I hadn't typed in a stay for 6 nights then the Samui deal would never have come up....but it did with pay for one night get 5 nights free! However I like to think that there is a little skill involved. Yes use comparison sites...and I mean about 3 or 4 or even 5 of them as they all come up with different deals. Do check out Flyertalk.com ,hotel deals forum..if theres a mistake or great rate around the world then you might find it here(look back at Presidential suite deals at the Conrad Bkk and the Ugandan Schilling deal at the Royal Meridien Khao Lak-both fantistic offers that I enjoyed)...also lots of useful discount codes...saved up to 60 or more per cent on 5* hotels in New Delhi using codes.A few of my own finds in Hong Kong and Bangkok are also posted here. You really need to spend a few minutes every day doing this as many mistake rates only last a matter of hours.Having said that some will last for considerably longer so maybe they are just a very special promotion??

Another personal tip is that I find that late Sunday/Monday is always a good time to find those 'special' rates since this is when the weekly update goes on with most of these travel sites.

As I say some of my rates are mistake, some are promotion and some I can only guess such as with my current stay.It makes me wonder if due to the current market certain big hotel chains will deliberatly give away a few cheap rates through 3rd parties without officially admiting it? Quite frankly though it dos'nt really matter when I'm sat here on the terrace polishing off my 7/11(well how could I afford the in house prices??) vino..

One last thing ..not all bookings are honoured in the case of the 'mistake rate'...but when they are it sure feels good! ;)

A caveat regarding Agoda's Thailand deals. I've received three email offers from them in the past two months for holiday bookings at resort areas.

I was surprised to discover many of the best deals are marked for Thai citizens only. When I complained to the office in Singapore, they just shrugged it off, saying the policies are determined locally, and not Agoda's responsibility.

I've noticed that a lot here in Thailand. Deals oriented towards Thais, or even residents. I've even seen deals for people who are only visitors. Hard to figure out sometimes!

Agoda proces generally are fine but don't try to bulk book people - you need to deal direct but book one room first to get a rate then go to the marketing manager with the Agoda price as they receive a hefty commission and that is where you can negotiate by dealing direct. We do it all the time in HK, Singapore and even here in BKK.
