December 19, 201015 yr Hi TV Forum, I know we have at least some members here which are intresting to keep Phuket clean. Unfortunately the former so called Pearl of the Andaman is becoming a sh1tehole more and more. I will ask you to put some pictures of examples here in this thread or at least a story of your discoverys. The polluting of natural enviroment in Phuket is horrendous and growing every day. My first story comes here: Some years ago I was living in middle of a jungle in Nai Harn area. Now the jungle is gone, ok thats the natural way of human life to make money I guess. 4 years ago they started building a big project in the mountains of Sayuan, wunderfull for the handfull of people living in there but a terrible view for all the others which cant see an intact mountain now anymore since they have to look at some huge white villas and some unfinished buildings due to a building stop. Lots of trees where cut there wich are "normally" not allowed to cut here anymore but thats normal and not the problem. The problem is now that since about 5 or 6 month people dumping their garbage in two huge holes down at the mountain where the water support for these nice seaview villas is coming from. The main polluter is an Elephant camp wich dumps hundreds of big black plastic bags with plastic cans, bottles and housmade garbage and what ever they dont need anymore, even dead animals and dogs. I get The quality of water what people use up hill in their fine villas should be infectous in the meantime and it make my flesh crawl even thinking about what they are using for taking a shower or brushing their teeth. We have been at the Orbortor in Rawai and they filed a complaint, that was it I guess, noone is really intrested it seems, and Thais around are not educated enough to understand how poisenous the water is they use for cooking or sometimes even drinking. But what to do? Someone an idea? Will Phuket Gazette even print a story like that in times where tourism is damaged anyway?
December 19, 201015 yr Like I've said before, Phuket is an over-rated and expensive dump! Not much reason to visit or live there...many better places in Thailand and Asia.
December 19, 201015 yr The Phuket Gazette used to do a picture editorial, called Trashing Phuket. It seemed to stop when the Gazette went online. There was a different picture each week of a dump site somewhere in Phuket and a small article. Most likely decided that it was not good PR for Phuket and Thailand. Brushing things under the carpet and an general apathy towards even trying to make a change is the main problem here, sure there are other problems here in Phuket but with the size of the population and the demands placed upon its limited resources, people that live here need to be governed to some extent by the local authorities as to what they can and cannot do and have some regard for being prosecuted if they break these laws. Until that happens, nothing will change here! We should bring back Trashing Phuket pictures this forum.
December 19, 201015 yr All the roads with grass verges are full of rubbish which has been tossed aside but normally you do not see it until the grass has been cut. The road which runs from PSU to the Honda dealer is a major dumping ground. Nobody cares, it is not in their home so is someone else's problem.
December 20, 201015 yr Surprice!!!!! It looks like this all over Thailand. Here in Isaan they dont even have the interest to dig a hole. Just leave the dogs and the garbage on the ground and than just dont care. THIS IS THAILAND... Glegolo Edited December 20, 201015 yr by glegolo

December 23, 201015 yr thx for the replies. You should post some photos here too. Only if ppl overseas see Pictures they know what we are talking about. Postig pics is easy with My link no Email or registration required on that page. Just click upload image from your pc and browse for your pic then upload now, thats it. Should be good if we show not just always the sunny sides of LoS. Many tourists have no idea what happend with the garbage they are leaving us here. On first glance your post seemed to imply that tourists are responsible for the waste issue here. Then, when I read it more carefully I can see that you write 'what happened to the garbage they are leaving us here' - so what you mean is they are unaware that their waste is not being disposed of correctly. Is this the correct understanding?
