HONOLULU (BNO NEWS) -- A strong earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean on late Wednesday morning, hundreds of miles off Hawaii, seismologists said.

The 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck about 873 miles (1404 kilometers) northeast off Hilo, Hawaii. It struck about 8.1 miles (13 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
