Russian spy sentenced to prison in Poland

2010-12-23 11:07:58 GMT+7 (ICT)

WARSAW, POLAND (BNO NEWS) -- A Russian spy was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday for espionage charges in Poland, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The individual was identified only as Tadeusz J. and was arrested on charges of gathering information about the Polish Army on behalf of Russia in February 2009. The alleged 41-year-old spy resided in Poland for ten years before his arrest.

Polish authorities believe that Tadeusz cooperated with Russia's military intelligence directorate (GRU) for at least six years. During his ten-year tenure in Poland, Tadeusz ran a small business.

The alleged Russian spy went on trial last October. The Polish court said that Tadeusz was exchanging codified messages using special equipment with GRU’s headquarters in Moscow on a regular basis.

Polish prosecutors demanded a five-year prison term for the Russian national but Tadeusz has repeatedly denied all charges. His lawyer said that he would appeal the court's ruling as they alleged a lack of evidence.

What? No outcry? Oh wait, it's a Russian, not an American. That explains it.

What's up with the Russian IS? They seem to be getting sloppy. First the American sleeper agents, then the guys working in UK that left quietly and now Poland. Goodness me. Vladimir Putin better pull up his socks.

No one wants to kick Russian spies out.
